Section 22 licence to shoot hen pheasant

    Hi all,

There appears to be some questions around the entitlements while holding a Section 22 (9) b licence.

A Section 22 (9) b licence covers the shooting of pen reared hen pheasants from 1st Nov to 31st Jan. Usually the limit of 35% of released numbers is imposed. This is decided following a visit by a NPWS ranger to check condition and numbers of hens being released.

This licence entitles the holder to shoot hens even if there is a weather ban in place, as is the present situation. It does not entitle you to shoot Cocks in such situations.

If you/club hold such a licence, you can add Cock pheasants to it by E.mailing the NPWS with your licence number and making the request. A decision will then be made by the ranger in your area if you are eligible, or not, for this addition.

    Hope this helps,

    Mitch
