scrappage scheme chancer

O.k, just wondering, and seriously thinking. I have a 99 car since January this year. It will be 1 year in my name soon and am thinking of getting rid of it. If I was to have an arrangement with someone who plans on buying a new car and who is not eligible for the scrappage scheme, would it be possible for me to scrap my car get the end of life destruction cert and buy a brand new car on behalf of someone else. Transfer the car over to them in their name and make a grand and a half for myself for all the trouble? :D Thus giving me an option of trading up.

Is there anything out there in law that could prevent me from doing so?

Just looked in to the requirements there and it says the car has to be registered in my name for 18 months or more, damn, thought it was 12 months, aahh well, I'm out by about three weeks as bought in mid January this year, as the scheme is extended for 6 months I just fall short of this option. Looks like it will be on the road for a good while yet.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

What car is it? Is it really that bad that you want it scrapped?

What does your collaborator get out of this? A €1500 discount (reduced to €1250 from Jan 1st) is really not great on what is effectively a preregistered car. They'd be better off looking for a low mileage demo model from a dealer.

Even if your dates did add up, there would be significant hassle involved.
Also the new car when sold to its final owner will have 2 owners regd against it. This will knock alittle of the value for most people.
Its just about worth while if you have a family member who is ready to take it off you but if you are buying it in the hope of flogging it for a profit, its not a runner.
