Car missed one service according to age, but not mileage, should I worry?

Just looking for some opinion/advice. I recently bought a car from a main dealer, a Honda 2.0 VTEC petrol, and had a quick look at the service history which seemed in order for the mileage (it has 80,000 km). Basically it had 3 services at or within a few thousand km of the recommended interval. But yesterday when looking at it more closely, I noticed that it went 2 years without being serviced, between service 1 and service 2. It had a 20,000 km service in 2008, and a 40,000k km service in 2010. By mileage this is correct, but it's supposed to be by mileage OR time, whichever comes first.

Just wondering is this something to be concerned about? I plan to keep the car for 4-5 years at least, so don't want anything to fail catastrophically in that time. If the consensus is that it's nothing to worry about, I'm happy enough to forget about it. The engine seems and sounds fine, just like the others I've driven.

    Thanks

Wouldn't worry me, 20K intervals is about right, some recommend to change oil and consumables time based as well but again wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

    Wouldn't bother me at all.

probably had a service but not with a registered dealer so no stamp. Lucky to have a car with any service history at all in Ireland :D:D:D

I would be a bit concerned about that, both on the grounds of the missed service and because the mileage/dates pattern sounds quite uneven. That said, you've already bought the car so I don't think there's much you can do. Maybe push the dealer for a discount on an extended warranty, if they sold the car as having a FSH. Moral of the story is that SHs need to be examined and double-checked with the garages in question - a quick look is not enough.

@Anan1 The mileage patterns are probably uneven because the car was used internally by the dealership group (a large one), not by a private individual. It came with a full one year warranty.

I'm kicking myself for not being more thorough checking the history, I saw 3 stamps at the right mileage.

Is it possible that the car was in fact serviced and the book just not stamped? That'd be my first hope. Was the car sold as having a FSH? If so, the dealership group might do you a deal on an extended warranty. Either way, I wouldn't get too bothered about it now - worrying won't change anything, and Accords are a reliable car. Do investigate my suggestions, though.:)

Thanks, you're right, worrying is futile, I was more looking for reassurance that it's probably not a big deal. :D

It was sold as having a FSH, so I'll look into extending the warranty. I would hope that the missing time based service was indeed carried out- but even if not, it seems that it's not critical.

Your worrying over nothing, so what if the car wasnt serviced its not a big deal(iv seen v-tec engines run for thousands of miles with very little oil and just take it!) i asume the car got a full service when you bought it, this is all that should concern you and from now on you get it serviced when its due

My Accord hasn't missed a beat since I bought it, despite not getting the loving car it deserves.

Went just over 32,000km between services before the last one - didn't even need to add any oil (I do check that now and again).

Wouldn't worry in the slightest. Does is actually say 1yr or 20,000km in the service book? Most modern cars are 2 years or mileage nowadays.

Excellent, thanks, that's just the re-assurance I was looking for :)

It does say 12 months or 20000km, whichever comes first, there's even 6 month intermediate services for 'extreme' driving conditions, i.e. lots of town or cold weather driving.

Apart from that one longer interval, the car has had its other services on the button, and I'll be servicing it according to schedule. The engine seems very smooth, no different to the other one I test drove.
