    HI guys,

I want to be able to view and record but without a sub for now.

I only record the odd thing so I would like the option as opposed to an absolute neccessity.

I have a quad LNB fitted and am currently using 2 sky boxes thus leaving 2 free.

I will be using these remaining 2 cables for the viewing and recording on the freesat box,but my question is does it matter which 2 cables are used? Is there a specific part of the LNB for recording for instance? Or are they all the same?

Finally what would be a decent freesat recorder be? I heard good and bad reports about HUMAX, is there a better alternative?

    TIA.

Well I use the Humax Foxsat Freesat HDR, and I can't see anything wrong with it so far..

If you only want to record things occasionally, you could consider the Technisat

    http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.php/digital-boxes/technisat-hdfs

Its not a full HDR, its a single tuner Freesat box with the ability to record to a datastick

Worth considering anyway and definitely cheaper than a full HDR...

I have the Humax HDR. I find it great.
But I believe you can get ones now that will record both Freesat and RTE digital.
If I was buying one now i'd go for one of those.

No, all outputs from the LNB are the same.

Humax Foxsat HDR - the bees knees. Can't fault it.

If for any reason some of the cables are of diffierent quality or have more joins than some of the other cables (e.g are some of your cables those that were pre-installed in the house) then it might be worth checking that they all provide similar signal quality. If not then would suggest using cables offering best signal for recording.

    Humax is excellent.

This sounds perfect for what my needs are right now,can I ask you how playback is acheived? Sorry to sound stupid but if I am recording to a data stick (is that like a USB key?) do I then view it on an external source such as a computer? Or am I missing something very obvious

Btw thanx guys for all your advice.

You should have a read of this document which explains how to use it to record and playback programmes, including live pause

    http://www.technisat-daun-fs.de/downloads/man/man_v2_0_0_usb_recorder_instructions_hdfs_6852.pdf
    Or this quick overview:
    http://www.technisat-daun-fs.de/downloads/man/man_leaflet_hdfs_6996.pdf

The data stick/USB key acts as a mini-hard disk.

    http://www.technisat.com/index9132.html?nav=Sat_DVB_S_,en,64-15041/
The HDFS allows multimedia playback of movies, music and pictures from external USB devices, memory cards and Compact Flash or via a networked PC using the Ethernet port. The network connectivity can be extended further with the addition of the TechniSat USB-WLAN adaptor to provide a wireless solution.
