Changing a bulb

Does anyone know a simple and easy way to change the driving light on the drivers side on a B6 Passat.

I can't see it or reach it and I'd rather not look like a tard taking it to a garage.

I had the same problem with a Mondeo before, not been smart, but I read the manual and it was an "easy" process of taken the headlight off and changing the bulb.

There's a plastic cover that either pulls straight out or turns and pulls out depending on year:

Use a small mirror to familiarize yourself with how it looks.

Fair play to ya for actually trying to sort it...... Now if only the other thousands of idiots driving around with defective lights would follow your example, well, would'nt driving at night be much more pleasent.....not to mention safer

As its just a parking light and I always drive with the head lights on anyway it doesn't make a huge difference to me or other people on the road.

However the warning light on the dash annoys me more than anything plus everything I have said about other drivers driving without lights. I'm going at it later on tonight/tomorrow once I get a lamp and mirror from my brother in law.

Failing that it'll be in a garage tomorrow night getting sorted :o

I have a 07 Golf and tried to get at a front parking bulb but it was impossible, the dash warning light said the bulb needed changing but as it was intermittent I knew it was a loose connection. The manual basically said that it was not intended to be accessed by the owner so as far as VW are concerned you have to go to a garage.

If it's anything like the A4 B6, you'll have two screw at the top of the headlamp unit just under the bonnet and two further back lower down in the engine compartment. Might take a minute to find the lower ones. Don't completely undo the bottom ones - unlike the top ones they hold U clips rather than O clips if you get me - just a turn or two and the whole unit will slide forward allowing access.

Make sure you get the unit to slide properly back into the bottom screws and washers when putting it back in.

Google and you'll find a description of the process with photos probably. Check one of the many VAG sites.
