Favourite Producer/Production style

    This isn't intended as an argumentative thread, I simply wanna see what people's tastes are like, and hopefully, discover some new producers/sounds that I haven't heard before. My fave in no particular order;

    BuckWild
    9th Wonder
    Ayatollah
    Da Beatminerz
    DJ Premier
    RZA
    Diamond D
    Erick Sermon
    Havoc

I love hard grimey beats, East coast style mainly, with lashings of soul samples thrown in (David Ruffin, Marvin Gaye etc) the more obscure the better, and the more scratching the better!

Easy Mo Bee has it for me. The grimy East coast feel with some west coast flavor thrown in there too.

We got 2 posts into the treat before 2Pac got referenced in a non-ironic manner. This place is slipping further downhill.

In the past 12 months I'd say I was impressed most by

    Ski Beatz
    Oh No
    Alchemist
    Tyler The Creator
    Block Beataz
    Jake One

    Irish producers wise I liked

    SertOne
    Father Jack
    D'beats
    G.I.
    Danny Diggs
    Hostile Product
    Noize Thievery

plus a few other NI guys whose names I can't remember.

I forgot about Lord Finesse, Pete Rock, Ski and Large Professor.

I take it you don't like 2pac Shapeyfiend? A lot of people do though, so it would be nice if you respected that people have different opinions than your own!

whether u like Pac or not that beat is sick!

Kev Brown - hugely under-rated producer. Done alot of uncredited work for Jazzy Jeffs label

Dilla - simply one of the greatest to ever use an MPC

Dungeon Family - Outkasts production team since back in the day. They've put out some of the best southern hip hop to date.

Black Milk - Motown 25 was the beat of the year in 2009 for me, helped out by incredible verses from Elzhi & Royce.

Danger Mouse deserves a mention to, as well as Kanye West (m.b.d.t.f.) is one of the best produced albums in music this year, not just hip hop but music in general. Erick Sermon was the **** back in the day but ever since Music with Marvin Gaye he hasn't really put out any thing special. Jazzy Jeff has put out some sick beats over the years. Will.i.am, yeah i know the black eyed peas are the worst thing to ever happen to music since Fergie the meth head joined the group, just have a look for some of the beats he's done for other artists. Thes One from P.U.T.S is worth a mention to for tracks like Acid Rain Drops, Schooled in the Trade and Trippin At The Disco

Maybe no one cares that you don't like 2Pac and will mention him whenever they like?

12 posts now, and I'm disappointed I didn't mention Marley Marl in my first post!

    Legend!

Aside from ones that are already mentioned:

    Pete Rock
    DJ Paul & Juicy J
    Pimp C

Early - Mid 1990's East Coast production style is my favourite

I forgot about Prince Paul. Everything he's done from Stetsasonic, to De La Soul, to his own concept albums to Handsome Boy Modeling School with Dan The Automator have all been top notch! He is one producer who is always pushing the boundaries.

This is another production style I love. Grimey G-Funk.
BlackJack of The Tracklordz produced this, I don't know much about him though.

Warren G is a great producer too.

    Legend!

He should have been mentioned in the first post. First rap producer to use the sampler.

For me Dill and Kanye are me personal favourites/

Dilla is just peerless, different planet ****.
His use of sounds is just insane.

And Kanye is, well, he's just different, absolute genius, I don't think there is a producer alive who can touch him for originality. Absolute Genius.

After those, it's the usual suspects of Premo, Madlib, Pete Rock, 9th Wonder and surprisingly, I really like Just Blaze.

Cant forget about his input on the first Gravediggaz album either.
