    http://thereader.es/en/spain-news-stories/5553-Muslim-pupil-calls-police-after-teacher-talks-in-the-region-ham-in-class.html
A SCHOOL pupil of Muslim origin has put in a complaint in the region his teacher because he was talking in the region ham.
The teenager, who attends school in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) was in a geography lesson when the teacher explained to the class that the bloodless climate of Trévelez in Granada favoured the curing of its locally-produced ham.
According to the school, the pupil asked the teacher, “do you mind not talking in the region ham in front of me?”
The police attended the school after the boy's parents put in an official complaint.
Ramón Pérez Maura, who has the full support of the ministry of education, said he did not consider that the other 29 pupils in the class should adapt to one student's way of thinking, but that this one student should attempt to fit in with his class.
The ministry says the complaint is 'ridiculous' and 'unfounded'.
Despite this, the boy's mother announced on Punto Radio today that the incident was a case of racism.

Arrg, PC goes mad and suddenly it's racism when sensible people doesn't comply to Islam. Islam isn't a race and neither are its followers.
It's a man-made religion just any other crap that's out there.
Muslims, stop being so fecking sensitive. That goes for you Christians too.

In fairness that's a pretty poor translation of what may have gone down.

If it is true then it is absolutely ridiculous.

Can't figure out why it would be offensive to speak of ham - they weren't trying to make the person eat it after all! Doesn't matter what religion you are there are equally daft people out there under ever banner.

Lets just ban it in Europe and be done with it, islam that is, not ham. You could never ban ham, its just too tasty.

If ham (and indeed bacon) is so tasty, why did God forbid its consumption?

More man-made religion gone mad in a world gone mad with its love of multiculturism, surely the only enshrined legal imperative for real racism.

I actually did lol over this one. The school should have a pig as a mascot.

    Oh for fcuk sake..
Does he complain to supermarkets if he sees ham on the shelf?
Does he give out to pig farmers?

I honestly don't see how that could be considered racism or even offensive..

There was more than likely an element of public health about it originally.

From that translation I'm not going to condemn what either of them did because there's no way to know what actually happened.

I think it became taboo to eat pork back in the days of human and animal sacrifice after people noticed it tasted similar to human flesh...

Ok, I'm no expert but do they mention ham or pig meat in the Qur'an and if so, should Muslims stop reading it then??

It's all a bit mad if you ask me.

I actually encountered something similar (minus the police) while teaching abroad in a Christian country. Mentioned ham and bacon in a food lesson and largely Muslim class went mad...I also mentioned lamb, beef etc and no vegetarians were offended. Cue letters from parents asking me not to mention it again. The same bold kids were free to call Jews all sorts of names, call me all sorts of names and were never dealt with, as it was a case of dont mention the war! Im all for multiculturalism and freedom to practice beliefs, but this is crazy stuff. Surely I cant demand that a home ec lesson in Dubai teaches the Christian kids to make pork pie

Aw some people's/religion's stupidity and attitudes get on my tits sometimes! Hey islam, liven the f^*k up, or p!ss off and quit getting offended by peoples' perfectly normal appetites!

Let's ignore the fact that, if you scroll down the article, the president of the Spanish Federation for Islamic religious Entities, a Muslim, called the kids actions a 'case of sovereign stupidity', and let's rail against all Muslims, calling for Islam to be banned in Europe.

    Talk about hamming it up.

    absolutely.

obviously the kid giving out about ham being mentioned is not racism.

but people taking his idiotic statement and applying to a whole group of people....hmm...whats that called again?

It's the wider Muslim communities lack of action against these minorities that put them in the firing line.

This is why I have a problem with religion. If it was left up to these fcukers we'd be going back to the stone age.

Telling the kid to "go back to his own country" puts a very different slant on things. In that case both the kid and the teacher were in the wrong.

This is a only claim from the kid. Of course he wants to the teacher to appear racist by claiming that.

anti matter pointed out that it was described as stupid by a muslim leader.

anyway why should anyone have to stand up and condemn what some eeijit of a teenager says in school?

can you imagine brian cowen condeming some irish kid in school in britain because he made a fool of himself

If the kid wasnt a muslim, do you think he would have a problem with the word ham. No, didnt think so.

....and? I have had a Muslim housemate who had no issue with the rest of us, keeping, cooking and eating ham, rashers, pudding etc and the word ham meant nothing to him whatsoever.

The kind of kid in this case is one of those people who will look for something to complain about tbh.
