    Hi all,

When I take photos in any type of darkish environment my photos are not coming out - I cannot for the life of me figure out what setting I need to change this.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Photographs need light. Taking photographs when there isn't a lot of light is difficult and requires appropriate equipment and knowledge.

You could try using your camera's flash. Read your camera's manual to find out how to turn on the flash and use it.

don't use the zoom, your lens gets darker as you zoom in further-i.e there's less light getting to the camera sensor
so leave it zoomed back to wide angle where possible, also raise your ISO to either 400 or if that doesn't work then up it to 800 (higher than that is going to look grainy)

Not coming out as in? just black? a blur of light?

If you're in full auto mode I imagine you're getting blurred, over exposed images? and the flash isn't firing. Is there a long pause after you click the shutter? The camera's auto exposure mode is trying to compensate for the bad lighting by extending the shutter speed. As suggested, you either need to pop the flash, though I'd have thought auto on a compact[?] would do this for you. If you have it set to a semi or full -manual mode, any of the P,A,S,M modes, then it won't auto-flash.

Can you tell us what mode on the camera you're using, and exactly what model of camera you have? Would make things much easier for people wanting to help :)

Thanks for the help... I reduced the zoom and increased the ISO and it seems to be working a treat now:)
