    Hi all

I have lots of tracks that I have deleted from my hard drive, but
    they still appear in iTunes.

Is there any way to remove tracks that are no longer valid?

I had a quick look in google, and found links shareware and freeware
programs, but I do not trust these applications, as they are not from Apple.

Does iTunes have a setting to scan or remove entries for missing tracks?

    Thanks

    B

delete i tunes and install it again. will only take a sec. Then just add the music from the folder you want to. Simples

Which won't work because the music library will be preserved.

Unless there is a third party application that will verify if the file exists OP it will have to be a manual job.

This will do the job for you if you are running Mac OS

Easiest method is probably to buy a Mac...

TidySongs will do it for you.

    1. Go to Library
    2. Select all songs
    3. Right click and select get info
    4. Change BPM on all songs to 99 (providing you don't use this category)
    5. Sort your library
    5. When this is done all the "dead" tracks that won't accept the BPM change will be grouped together for easy deletion.

    Note:
I've only tried this one and that was about 4 or 5 years ago so I have no idea if it works with newer versions and have no access to Itunes to check right now.

Surely the easiest thing to do is delete the library file from the Apple folder in your user profile and re add the music folder?

Would you not lose data like playcounts, playlists etc?

I haven't tried this but if you changed iTunes Music folder in settings and have Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised ticked, I would expect it to delete the dead entries when it moves all the songs. That should also keep all your ratings etc.

Good point, but I'd prefer 0 play counts over dead song links.
