NCT in the snow

My NCT is booked for 9 on Thursday morning in Dublin city and by the looks of it I haven't a hope in hell of making it there. However the NCT site is informing me that to reschedule will cost me an extra E22.....despite the fact that the RSA are telling people to stay off the roads if they can! Also, when I tried to contact the NCT phone line I got a message telling me "Due to the adverse weather conditions we have closed early." The cheek! So on the one hand they're all going home early cos of the weather, but they're charging motorists to change their plans. Smacks of hypocrisy.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar run-in and what was the outcome? I'm going to pester them on the phone until they agree to reschedule for free. Has anyone else been successful in tackling them? From previous experience they're not the most reasonable of people to deal with.

I say wait until your test time, call the line, hear they're closed, and then call the next day claiming you arrived for your test with nobody to administer it!

I had mine last week and they called me to come in early, it was at the Athlone center and the snow was fairly bad. Why don't you just go? The RSA are advising people to only drive if they have to. I'd think your NCT is a "have to" kind of situation. May as well get it over with.

You must have been raging! I find it ridiculous that they'll make concessions for their staff but not for their customers. I shall do my best on the phone tomorrow to get my way. Don't think it's an unreasonable request given the circumstances. If I do have to make the trip I can just see all the headlines: "Young driver in horror smash en route to NCT centre"
"Test chiefs refused to help out snow smash driver"......

I had an NCT scheduled at Fonthill @ 5pm today. They called me at 2pm to enquire if I was going to make it, offered an earlier appointment.

Also heard them on the phone advising others who could not make it in to rebook FOC.
Have to say they were very helpful

Do they allow time for car to thaw out, or do they bring it into test centre
with lumps of ice on the arches/mud flaps etc?. Must be nearly impossible
to test a car proberly in these weather conditions.

Rang the call centre today and I have to say they were absolutely lovely, appointment is rescheduled at no extra cost to me and they even wished me a Happy Christmas! And there I was all prepared for a row!
