Anyone know if there's a handy site (preferably in English) for travel in Berlin? Booked a little trip in a couple of months and it's a city that I haven't the slightest idea about.

Public transport is needed in Berlin, as it is too far to walk, but is very efficient.
Get a three day/weekly ticket at the airport and away you go. One small point is that Potsdam is an extra zone on these tickets, there is a "add zone" type ticket for one day as well if you have the Berlin ticket.

maybe try the travel forum also.

    enjoy.

If you`re any way able to use a Bus or Train in Eire then travel in Berlin should present no difficulties.

I`d suggest staying away from the "Visitor Card" offerings which are really marketing orientated and front loaded.

I found buying a Zone ABC day ticket each day to be just the ticket (!).

But do remember to Validate your ticket after you purchase it from a vending machine, usually the validator will be a small seperately located unit close to be not always directly beside the vending unit.

Even buying a single ticket (Zone AB €2.40 Zone ABC €2.60 ) offers you access to a vast, efficient and,of course,Integrated Public Transport System.

If you`re looking for a nice comprehensive Bus Tour without the commentary, just take a spin on the Bus Routes 100 and 200, which will pass most if not all of the tourist attractions in the City.

For example a Zone ABC Day Pass costing €6.50 each, brought us all the way out to Sachsenhausen Concentration camp outside Oranienburg some 35 Km from berlin itself.

It`s perhaps worthwhile bearing in mind that Berlin is a vast City compared to any of our versions of Urbanity and it may be difficult to come to terms that the place has several "Centres" without necessarily having one over-riding An Lár...:)

Whatever ticket you eventually do decide on,remember the Validation gig...cos Germanic ethic doesn`t really go a bomb on the "I Never saw the signs" type of excuse....:P

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

A bit OT but when your travelling on the S-Bahn and U-Bahn don't forget to validate your tickets after purchasing them. A hefty fine for not doing so. The BVG website is quite good. It's a bit expensive but I found the lonely planet guidebook quite helpful too.

Some (All ?) of the automatic ticket machines have several language options (including English) :)

If you're flying into Schoenefeld there are ticket machines on the station platforms as well. There are often queues at the ones in the passages.

As mentioned don't forget to validate - you only do this once per ticket.

Schoenefeld is in the C-Zone so you'll need an ABC ticket.

Berlin is also a good city to cycle round so that's another option with bike hires a plenty.

Thanks all. Saw the tickets available in Schonefield or however it's spelled and they looked like the best option.

It's a little big to cycle for me I think and if I'll do anything over the next few months to prepare for heading over it'll be brushing up on my Junior Cert German, not losing 10 stone. :pac:
