There was a 40 minute delay to the 5:36 Rosslare train due to an 'incident' at Dalkey yesterday, however the driver gave no other info, even when we got going again. Anyone know what happened?

I heard someone had a heart attack on a DART at Booterstown, and emergency services could not make it to the station, due to the weather.....

    In the Indo today...

The 50yr old driver of the train was unwell and suffered a heart attack when in Dun Laoghaire station. He died later in St Michael hospital. RIP

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/commuters-shocked-as-dart-driver-dies-2471670.html

    story
COMMUTERS on a southbound DART were yesterday left stunned after its driver collapsed and later died of a suspected heart attack.

John O'Neill (50), from north Dublin, collapsed at the Dun Laoghaire DART station at around 9am yesterday.

Mr O'Neill had been feeling unwell for sometime and his condition worsened when the train stopped at Dun Laoghaire.

In a bid to save his life a defibrillator was obtained from the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Master, as one could not be found in the station or on the train.

However, Mr O'Neill was transferred to St Michael's Hospital by ambulance, where he died later that day.

Yesterday, management and staff of Iarnrod Eireann expressed their deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr O'Neill.

He had worked for Iarnrod Eireann for 25 years and had been based in Fairview DART Depot.

Southbound services were delayed for 45 minutes as a result.

This just highlights the need to get defibrillators installed in public places like stations, schools and offices. They can save lives.

The indo article says the driver took unwell at 9am. The OP says the 5:36 Rosslare train was delayed.

maybe there were two seperate incidents then, with whatever the OP reported happening at Dalkey being something entirely different?

Yes the two incidents are entirely seperate the first one at dalkely happened on monday evening and the other was in dun laoghaire yesterday morning.

Can't vouch for the Dun Laoghaire delay (and my condolences to the poor driver's family), but I was caught up in Monday's teatime snarl-up. The announcement we heard at Lansdowne was that a passenger had taken ill at Dalkey.
