Hi house will be empty for 5 days over the next week , was wondering if its ok for me to turn water off to house under sink in the kitchen , and then drain the tank ?? . I don't want to come back to burst pipes etc or what other solutions are there ?

    Thanks

Yeah good idea to do that. I would also suggest turning on the heating for a few hours every day, leave the attic door open to make sure nothing freezes up there. :)

    +1.

Thats what I would do. Make sure the heating is on/off periodically over the 24 hours, and not just the day time

I actually had the same question - I'm thinking of draining my cold water system while away for the Christmas break.

Are there any risks involved, or mistakes to avoid, in draining (and later refilling) the cold water tank and related pipes?
I'm mainly worried about the pipes in the attic freezing, so wouldn't bother with the hot water tank.

just turn ur mains water off and run the bath until water stops

consider draining your heating or leaving it on to avoid burst pipes!
