Extreme cold causing car alarm to go off

The extreme cold weather we had over the weekend caused my car alarm to repeatedly go off on Saturday night. My theory was that frost was tying to push the doors open, but whatever the cause I was constantly heading out with the keys all night so as not to annoy the neighbours. Combined with that the cold ran down the battery and I had to get a jump start. It's an '02 Fiesta, maybe it just can't handle the cold.

Anyway, if the current weather keeps up I'm not going to drive home for Christmas, I'll take the train and leave the car here. I've been thinking about taking out the battery and leaving it in my flat so the alarm doesn't go off while I'm not here. Can anyone tell me if I leave the battery indoors for a week or so will it loose it's charge? I can bring Dad's charger back up with me if that is a problem.

why not just lock the doors?

leave the alarm off and manually lock the doors with the key...

Leaving the battery indoors will preserve it if it's fully charged and kept warmish. If the alarm is constantly going off and your battery has been drained I reckon one of your door switches may be faulty, easy fix is to disconnect them ;) That will stop them setting your alarm off. Get new ones at your convenience.
