    I bloody hate Christmas.

I can see why some people like it,
but as far as I'm concerned you can go and shove that holly jolly christmas spirit far enough up your arse that I could pull it from your mouth and floss you to death with it.

    BAH HUMBUG!!

In bed for the past 3 days, dreading christmas.... really think you may need to speak to someone mate.

    Reasons I dread Xmas day:

Forced to go to Mass at 9am for the annual battle of "Look how many of my family members came home for Xmas........where's yours??" and "Best dressed family"..............it doesn't make matters better when I'm completely hung-over from drinking it up the night before hand. Last year I was still hammered because I only slept for a few hours. :pac:

Come around 7-9pm when the dinners eaten, I'm bored, have nothing to do or watch and most of the family are either passed out or have cleared off to their OH's house. Usually another mate calls around and we go for a spin around the ghost-town, wishing it was Stephen's Day so we could do something.

Other than that if the old Charlie & The Chocolate Factory is on then I'll be okay, fùck the Tim Burton version.

:D:D who's "making you go to mass"

    Mumsie-Poo & Dadsie

Me & the sisters / brother just go for the sake of not causing an argument with them. Last thing we want is a Moody Mammy cooking the dinner with nothing but hatred :pac:

Meh, it's only once a year we have to go but, good grief, I want to curl up and die from my hangover (And I'm not giving up boozing on Xmas Eve for anything! :P)

I feel daft kneeling when I don't particulary like or want anything to do with the Church, too. But I keep thinking:

"It's all for the turkey, it's all for the turkey, it's all for the turkey..............and the delicious stuffing!...........Oh how I want to eat the stuffing!!"

That's what the priest is thinking too. Although probably not in the same context.

In fairness, the priest did a quick Mass last year. I liked the cut of his jib, a man with priorities..............dinner!

I do get the guilt trip too though.

"Ah c'mon and be holy for an hour of the year!"

Repent repent repent, forgive forgive forgive. Some sh*te about Jesus and how we're all meant to love each other. Careful now as he tiptoes around some pink elephant. "THANKS BE T'GOD". Home.

I start on my knob. I'm half way there. Oh ho ho ho!

But seriously, I am probably going to suffer the same fate of mixing there/their/they're and your/you're and I do expect to be corrected.

    Anyways, Christmas huh?

Having a few beers & good conversation with the family, sit around watching a few old films, eat an awesome dinner followed by turkey & ham + stuffing sandwiches later in the evening, eat some of my cold chocolate (I'll place selection box in fridge), possibly see a few mates...

I cannot wait for Christmas day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

This year will be a little strange. It will be the first year I won't be waking up in my Mam's. Last year I wandered back there after the pub and woke up at home. This year, however, there is no room at the inn so I'll be waking up in my house with my housemates and for the first time in 5 years I don't have a car so then walking all the way to my sisters for breakfast then being bored til dinner time then drunk then really drunk then leaving my Mam's to go home and drink with my friends til I pass out in a river of lonely tears, especially if someone plays Lonely this Christmas (why is that allowed to be a xmas song?).

I actually do love xmas, for the 12 days off if nothing else :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,706 ✭✭✭fonecrusher1

    This is what xmas is for me;

    - the big turkey dinner at parents house (which is pretty much the highlight of my christmas)
    - drinking beer
    - eating countless honey glazed ham sandwiches.
    - yet another very predictable new years eve night
    - being hungover

Apart from the big dinner on the 25th theres really not a lot i think of the silly season. Its ok.

can you not pretend you are going to midnight mass after a few drinks in the pub.

or you can say that christmas is actually a pagan festival and mass has nothing to do with it - jesus wasn't even BORN on this date - its all to pull the wool over people's eyes.

To be honest, it kind of was when it was advertised. Pity the company is run by a pack of colobus monkeys in shirts and ties. They make it genuinely difficult to do your job in a productive manner.

No, but the parents did grow up in a religious atmosphere. They're religious, we're not but it means something to them to have the family altogether for Xmas Mass.

I don't like it but I'm not going to kick up a storm over a relatively small thing.

The world of retail demands that I work excessive hours in order to celebrate the birthday of the son of their sky fairy everyday up until the day itself, straight back in work the next day at 8. Retail has really made me realise how ****e humanity in general is.

I only get to see my small brothers once or twice a year if even. Christmas has ruined that experience for me. Can't wait for the dinner though.

What I'm trying to say is that even though I'm non religious, consumerism has ruined what should be a time to be with the family for many.
