Is there a 'standard' Google app for managing/syncing Android phones via your computer (something along the lines of iTunes for iphone).

Failing that is there a non-Google alternative that is good.

Also can any one confirm that Irish users can now buy apps from the market?

    Thanks

I don't use my Android phone for music, so I can't really help there. You don't actually need an itunes equivalent for Android, though. You can copy directories straight from your PC to your SD card and play music straight from that. The file system on Android is a lot less complicated than the Apple structure. Not being tied into a bloated app like iTunes is a plus, to be honest.

As for syncing other stuff (contacts, phone numbers etc.), I manage it all through my google account (gmail, contacts, google calendar, etc.) - once its set up, its completely transparent to you - it just works.

The android market is now fully open to Irish users (paid apps and all).

    You can buy apps.

It depends on what you want to sync

I sync my calendar and contacts via Google and also Microsoft Exchange.

For music, movies etc. you can use doubletwist which is free and will sync playlists etc. I don't really use this as I don't listen to music, watch movies that much. There is an extra app called airsync, which is paid, I bought it while it was on a special offer, but haven't actually used it yet. It works with doubletwist to sync using wifi, so that you don't need to plug your phone in.

There is a dropbox app for other files

May sound like you need lots of different apps, but you don't have to think about the Over The Air (OTA) syncing with your contacts and calendars, so you can never lose your contacts again :)

^^ This. Managing through your Google account as great, you're not tied to one PC/Mac.

If you do have lots of music you need to manage try this http://www.mediamonkey.com/

    Thanks for the reply guys.

I never thought of syncing through Gmail ! Unfortunately I'm using iCal, Address Book, etc (OS X)

Media Monkey looks good. I'll look into that a bit more. (Although I'm not sure if it is available for OS X)

    Thanks again.
