Ok so over the last week I have been getting "Deleting browsing history" every now and again, and then on Saturday I'm doing me thing and minding me own business when I close a java applet I sees Internet Explorer open and creating yahoo email account, it was like someone was logged in and using me browser  I immediately shut down, though in hindsight i should have followed exactly what was happening

Id imagine it was automated program to create spam accounts, but my question is - what are the chances that my files were copied etc? - i have some personal information that I am a bit worried about, and does anyone know the capabilities of such a program?

There's no way to know for sure whether anything was copied. All you can do for now is tackle the virus or whatever it is that's made its way onto your machine. Start here and work your way through the instructions and report back.

Okay it's up to yourself. You don't have to reconnect it to the network to do a lot of the cleaning up. You can download programs like Malwawarebytes, Clcleaner etc. onto another PC and transfer them onto the infected machine in Safe Mode. It might give you a better idea of what it was that infected your machine and therefore how it worked.
