To those more experienced in airfield ops,

Could the Heavys be parked north of the terminals, on the old 11-29 runway or over by the Fire Station.

Seems a pity to lose the revenue or maybe getting them back out is the problem.

It is possible as Aer lingus park the A330's out on 11/29 but because there was more diversions coming into dub they were trying to facilitate more A/C.

Plus you could say that the white elephant is serving a purpose.

Oh and welcome to A&A Peter.

Was on a 43 coming through Kinsealey or there abouts yesterday around 1500, when I saw a BA 747 approaching. Had great view from upstairs front window!

Was just wondering this myself but if I am correct ( open to correction here ) I believe that Dub has had massive expansion Ramp wise down around the Fire Station Area, but I am open to correction as I have not been up there in ages.

Looking at the Dublin airport departures website. Those diversions don't look to be going anywhere soon. Some scheduled for departure earlier this morning with no update since.....no mention of the BA or VS flights going.........It also shows all EI flights to LHR cancelled

    DUB-LHR flights:
    Delta Air Lines DL9859 19/12 08:30
    American Airlines AA116 19/12 09:30
    American Airlines AA98 19/12 11:15

There is plenty of asphalt/tarmac sq metres in the airport. However for these larger aircraft its probably easier for DAA to leave them at T2. Using a remote stand and buses would be very messy. And trying to tow them back onstand during normal ops in/out of DUB would be an extra chore.

The problem with these situations is the unknown element. They could very well be told that LHR will be open for 90 minutes, with only an hours notice. Trying to get pax boarded in a small time window for such a departure is easier if they are at the terminal.

Wonder who handled them in DUB. Delta and AA have contracts already in DUB, assume BA was handled by EI? as they do operate flights into DUB. Virgin?

Was kinda wondering if there were many people on those diverted planes whose final destination was in fact Dublin- would they get their bags back in DUB and be out the airport door happy at the phenomenal BA customer service that went out of their way to drop them off in Dublin?:D

Or would they have madness of having to fly on the rescheduled flight to LHR then try and rearrange their missed connections back to DUB?

I just hope everyone gets home in time for Christmas.

I'm sure that there were a few Irish pax on those flight, definitely on the JFK-LHR one. I can't say about the BA flights but the Virgin flight definitely off-loaded the bags. VS containers can be seen beside the aircraft on the left of the shot.
