Foundation from Make Up Forever has started to smell

    Hey,

I rarely wear makeup but I splashed out on a fairly expensive bottle of liquid foundation in Make Up Forever about a year ago for nights out or special occasions. Went there as I'm deathly pale and anything from Boots makes my face look orange.

Anyway went to use the foundation the other day and noticed that it's starting to smell. Nothing terribly vulgar but not very pleasant either. Is this normal for foundations? I'm thinking maybe it's just because I've had it so long and normal people might have used the whole bottle by now.

Is it still okay to use on my skin do you think? Still have probably half the bottle left. Anything I can do to rescue it? Thanks!

There should be a mark on the bottom of the bottle which has a number infront of a 'M'. That's how many months the product should last for.

TBH I'd expect there would be a smell after a year.

Sounds like its gone off. I wouldn't use it.

More than likely gone off I'm afraid.

If you still really want to use it though, maybe test some on the inside of your elbow and see if it causes any rash or anything before putting it on your face.

Foundation goes off? I've had foundations for about 3 years that I still use, cos I barely ever wear it. They don't smell at all. What happens when it goes off, it irritates your skin etc?

Usually it would be bacteria causing the foundation to go off. You can make them last longer by using pump bottles, keeping them out of the light and heat and not sticking your fingers of dirty brushes into the pot/bottle.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't know anything about makeup at all so it was great to have people to ask.

I tested the makeup on my arm earlier with no ill effects but the smell is really off-putting so I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy a new one. At 31 euro for 30mls it's a pain in the arse, but I'll just have to start wearing foundation more often!

    Thanks again :)

Invest in a pump bottle so you can decant some into it.
