Getting VRT Back - What to buy?

Have been approved for VRT back for disabled passenger - I will be the driver but my mother is disabled and will be a passenger.
Currently have a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. Definately want another 7 seater don't always use the 7 seats but need a big boot so seats folded down 99% of the time with the Picasso.
Thing is, the Picasso is starting to give me a few niggles and I'm not convinced I should buy another one ... I absolutely LOVE its configuration - big and roomy but doesn't feel too big if you know what I mean.
I'm allowed up to €15,875 on the VRT and obviously want to maximise value for money BUT - how do work out what the VRT on each car is?

I want something thats reliable and ideally would go for a C4 again but am wary .... anyone any advice / recs please?
Am a bit bamboozled but I want to get this sorted asap.

    Thanks for reading

s a passenger Band D may suit best but then you are going to run into a barrier when selling again.. "Swings and Roundabouts"

I found the different band by scouring Carzone
    Choose "NEW cars"
then specific models..That shows what VRT/VAT is on them
You can work it from there.

    Excellent Vectra - Thank you!
Had no idea where to start looking and need to get sorted asap.

Aside from the VRT rate - any recs on 7 seaters?? LOVE the C4 driving wise and the inside but am a bit wary with the niggles its giving on going for another - but then again it'd be under warranty .....
Also, we have 2 options - trade in my C4 07Reg against a new car and try sell it privately and do a scrappage on OHs 00 Reg Astra (its on its last legs) and buy a second hand car cash ... How hard would it be to sell the C4 privately??m ... Decisions decisions

EDITED to ask - I see on a C4 the VRT is 16% and VAT is 21% - say the C4 costs €30,000 - how do I work out what I'd get back?? ... Do I take off the 16% firts and then the 21% or do I add them together and take off 37%??

this may be a bit off topic. but only a bit. My nephew got the cert for a vrt less car.
he is paralysed down one side but can drive.
When he went to import a second hand car( and he was told the same would be true for a new car) he was told he would have to have thousands of euro worth of modifications done to it even though he did not need them.

    30k Less 16% vrt = €25,862
    Less 21% VAT = €21,373

This only gives you less than 9k off of your 15k allowance.

I am not into 7 seaters so would not know what to advise on.

Take for example The Ford S-Max 140bhp Zetec :

    rrp €32,495

    Less 20% VRT = €27,079

    Less 21% VAT =€22,565

Now you are close to 10k off but still a long way away from max.

    Happy Hunting

Depends on the mods needed for him to be able to drive..

Can he drive a car without mods??
If so, Then very little mods needed.

If he does need extensive mods then i think it must be around 10% of the value of the car has to be spent.

    s max?

OP i would'nt be to concerned about getting the max amount back, if you do it will mean when you come to change it in couple of years times it will be worthless due to high motor tax and fuel comsumption. You better of finding a car that suits you needs than maximising your deductions.

Also what needs does you passanger have, do you need a swivel seat installed, or a swivel child seat. You need to take into account other things like how wide the doors hinge, as if you have to get someone with limited mobility out it helps. Will you need to carry a wheel chair.

    Just my two cents

Exactly the point I made in my original reply ;)

he needs none. he can drive an auto, putting stick into drive etc with right hand. only uses cars generally with controls on rhs of steering wheel.
the lady in the customs was friendly, accepted that he needed no mods ,but was insistent that without mods car dould not be imported/bought

So basically he only needs a sterring wheel assister ( Steering wheel knob ) 50 euro covers that and he is covered

Thanks a million for all the replies!

First off, I will need a modified front seat for a disabled adult passenger ... I don't have one in my current car but this should make it easier to get her in and out of the car - hopefully!

I do have to carry a wheelchair and this is where I find I need the 7 seater with back 2 seats down - the C4 is particularly high so makes it easier to take a wheelchair and shopping together etc.

Now, I have the C4 Grand Picasso and as I said I absolutely love it but am afraid of the niggles ... BUT - a new one would be under warranty for 2 years so if anything happened I could take it back and after that I'd hopefully be able to change again .. thats if the rules dont change in the meantime.

I've had a bit of a look and the S-Max looks like it has good height and is fairly similar in size to the C4 ... but thats just on the internet - so haven't seen it in real life yet.

I love the look of the Mazda 5 - was a major contender when I bought the C4 BUT the middle seat in the second row isn't a proper full seat.

Looking into everything I think I need to go for something good size / height wise BUT I definately want reliability and decent mpg .... not a lot to ask is it:rolleyes::)

So if anyone has any suggestions of what to go for OR what NOT to go for I would be very grateful!

Thanks a million for everyones help!

Oh, one last question .... regarding my C4 - IF I did decide to sell this privately does anyone know how difficult this might be??

    Thanks for all advice

Off topic, but if a car needs absolutely no modifications then what is the purpose of the exemption.

If someone has the use of one hand then surely a modification for the stalks is not only advisable but necessary for the safe use of the car.

The vrt and vat exemption is a generous system, and I don't begrudge anyone it, but surely there is an onus to ensure the car is safe.

You can get the exemption by just fitting a steering knob, but unless the car has auto wipers, he'll have to use his right hand.
