    Hi
I'm looking for direction in creating a logo for a new business. I want to be able to use this on my website, transport and flyers/business cards.

Is it easy enough to create one myself? How/Where?

Are there dedicated business (Irish) out there that do this (how much would it cost)?

I'm not looking for anything complex - fairly simple really but have spent a good while looking through the net without any joy.

    Thanks for any help!!

I created own for my own business, it was straight forward and didn't cost that much.

There are plenty of sites that advertise them if you have someone do one expect between 300-500 for time spent on design

Thanks ronaneire, how did you go about it? Did you use a website or did you get software? 300-500 is a bit expensive as the idea I have is very simple.....

I think I used vista print and then made changes after I got it from them. I am nearly sure I paid around 25e for it.

Mine was simple enough too, but what I had was completely different to what I ended up with but I was quite happy with it

Cheers for that - will give it a try.

I set up a transport company about 6 years ago and got my printing done in Reads in Sandyford which saved me thousands compared to every other printers. But they also have designers that will design a logo for you and they did mine for €40

They do a very good job up there. Ask for Niall and he'll look after you

Top notch. when i was starting my business i need loads of stuff printed i got a quote from snap which is 100m from Reads and the quote was €7500.

Foe the exact same amount of work Niall in Reads charged my €900. i didnt think it was possible to have such a huge difference in price

Please keep in mind that a logo design costing 300-500 is a UNIQUE creative professional design while anything less than that are just templates that anybody can use over and over again.

Templates require no skill or creativity and will not look professional and therefore these can be offered very cheaply.

If you are just looking for a very simple logo and dont mind seeing other business with the exact same logo as you just use one of those print companies or other template design websites.

Just to keep in mind!

When i got mine done i sat down for two hours with the designer and started from scratch so i disagree

Ok i take back what I said! Apologies! :) thats a very rare thing though! Dont see how they could possibly pay a designer an hourly wage for that rate but alright! :)

Sorry dude didnt mean to sound like a prick.

I suppose they give such a great servcie that its always jammed when i go up there, word of mouth is better than anything so if it means takin a hit on the designers wages he has to be making it back ten fold

This website is good for inspiration.

    http://www.logolounge.com

I'd say graphic designers are familiar with it.

Most web designers provide logo design services. We used M11 Creative Development who designed our website, logo and stationary for a very reasonable price.

A logo shouldn't be rushed, a lot of thought and attention should be put in to it. Your logo represents your entire identity, and if it has been given little attention then you can expect the same from your customers.

I'd warn against designing your own logo if you don't have a background in design, or getting it done on the cheap. There's a lot to consider...

Is the logo scalable or would it lose all detail on a business card? Does it look like another companies? Does it represent your industry? What about the colour choices, what do they communicate? What does it say about your pricing...does it feel like good value like Ryanair, or high quality/service like Qatar? What about the font, does it combine well with the graphics? What does the font choice imply? Will it be sufficiently legible if you're using it on signage? And so on...

Whether you like it or not, your logo is the visual summary of your business, and people will judge you (sub)consciously on it alone. It'll be the single most important piece of advertising you invest in.

I'd echo everything Cianos says above.

There's a thread over in the Digital Design forum right now that demonstrates how difficult it is to develop a good logo.

thats a very old article and most if not all points mentioned in that article are actually improved. the minimum fee for example is now 300$ instead of $50.

The feedback system is very good to really gives the designer an idea of what you need done! :)

Creating your own logo on those sites can be quick and cheap, but the designs will never compete with a bespoke design created for the company by a designer. Those sites usually have a stock library of symbols to suit different types of businesses. You choose one and the colours and then just input your own text. Chances are the symbol you choose has been used many times before, so it isn't really an unique brand. The only thing that makes your brand unique is the name.

Here's another that I found www.tweak.com - Irish company that seems to provide business cards, leaflets posters and ads even. a lot cheaper than design companies.
