Problem with Redundancy

Hey i was hoping there is someone out there that might be able to offer me some advice/information
I was employed by a company that has since gone into liquadation - one of the employees was over pension age - when it came to redundancy the company was not in the position to pay it so it went to the board to pay the full amount - he has now been informed that since he had reached pension age and changed PRSI class he is not entitled to redundancy - this is different to what i was told at the time as i was told that your age is not relevent to redundancy as that would be ageism
has anyone else come across this or do they know if there is a way to fight / appeal it - as you can understand , this man will never get an other job and as he had worked with us for over 30 years he was getting a fair sum of money ( even if it was just staturary )

I've never heard of age requirements preventing someone from getting a redundancy payment. He should ask for whatever he was told in writing. This can also be confirmed by called NERA or the Dept of Ent, Trade and employment.

There used to an age limit of 66, but that was done away with from 08/05/2007. Don't know if that helps!

thanks a lot for that , i did think there had been new rulings with regard to the age limit - guess we will just have to fight it
