Can you put up the full specs of the machines?

You wont notice any difference between 3GB and 4GB of memory with normal usage.

i dont have the HP spec to hand but it was pretty similar to the e machine one except the e machine one had 4gb memory instead of the 3gb that the hp one had...........i am just not sure about e machines and if they are good or bad ????

I've never seen an emachines laptop that i like. That being said, i haven't seen any of their recent stuff, but i've never really heard anything great about them tbh.
If the specs were the same, except for the RAM i would go HP. The difference between 3GB/4GB is minimal, and i would go as far as to say you would notice no difference at all!

I'd never advise ANYONE to ever buy a HP. They are, easily, the least reliable machines on the planet.

E-Machines aren't great either, but HP's are terrible.

What's your Budget OP, I'm sure someone on here could find you somehting reliable and just as well speced for the same price.

first off brand shouldn't be a deciding factor so ignore the post above.
all laptops from all the different brands have failure rates.

you are protected by law if the laptop has a fault

the specs, price and for what you will be using it for should be your deciding factor.

the specs of the emachine seems decent enough for general use but will not be much use for games will be fine for word Internet browsing etc.

Failure Rates By Manufacturer posted by dr.bollocko
    500x_squaretrade3.jpg

Over 31 percent of laptops will fail in the first three years of ownership.

    • Of these failures, two-thirds came from hardware malfunctions (20.4 percent) and one-third (10.6 percent) was reported as accidental damage.
    • Asus and Toshiba were the most reliable manufacturers, with fewer than 16 percent having a hardware malfunction over three years.
    • Netbooks are projected to have a 20 percent higher failure rate from hardware malfunctions than more expensive laptop computers.
    • Manufacturers proved to be a more reliable determinant of reliability than the type of laptop and should be a greater factor in making a purchase decision.

I always go for the higher RAM option myself. I never used to pay any attention to brands but when it comes to laptops, I'd see which keyboard/mouse-pad feels best.

Going for the best cpu/graphics is the best option. As RAM is easily/cheaply upgradable.

Agree about processor, not bothered about graphics so much. I meant when comparing similar specs, I'd go for the higher RAM and wouldn't really care about brand.

Fair enuff, you mighn´t but you don´t get to be a giant corporation like that by constantly cheating and abusing your customers by offering up junk. My netbook has been going like a dream for the last two years, thank you.

Their lack of accountability for the the nvidia default has done enough to make me tell clients to avoid purchasing their mobile equipment.

just google the laptop model and read reviews of it

could be a great laptop but with an awful keyboard, trackpad and battery life..

If you can't find reviews, try to find it on amazon.com or .co.uk, they usually print up user reviews good or bad

specs mean nothing when u have a **** trackpad or a rubbish keyboard or some other annoying badly designed flaw

don't buy emachines - a friend of mine bought one last christmas and the thing is doing well to be still in one piece at this stage and she minds it with her life - she treats it like it's made of gold but the charger still managed to break and the plastic around the screen is starting to fall off...

surely for your money or even an extra few euro you can get a laptop by another brand -

3 and 4gb ram won't make a difference in normal usage so don't worry about that

just pick the one that feels the best and make sure it's not emachines - that's from personal experience - maybe other people have had different experiences with them but that's what i've seen of them
