    hey guys.

I seen this: 40 inch samsung LED

This morning and nearly shouted out with excitement.

I would love to pick this up for christmas and it is by far the best price going.

Only thing is i am very hessitant about online buying (not as a whole, just to this degree.

How is the aftersales if i have a fault etc?

I have heard mixed reports of aftersales experiences but I can let you know of my recent dealings. In Nov 2008 I bought a Sony 40' tv from them. In October this year the set began to show symptoms of the panel failing and I mailed them to find out what the story was. They replied saying the set had a 1 year guarantee and sadly as this had expired I was on my own. Most reports say that it is uneconomical to repair, a grand down the drain only two years ago!

Anyway, I spotted on their site saying that they offer an added 1 year warranty on top of the manufacturer's warranty for peace of mind. So I copied and pasted this and replied to their refusal mail. To my surprise they replied the next day with a coupon and would honour their online promise afterall. I had to get a box from Harvey Norman and call UPS to collect the set. It went back to France, it took about six weeks but I now have the set back and it's working grand and it didn't cost me a penny.

The whole experience taught me that it's not really worth saving a few bob by buying from them. I know they fixed the set but the whole idea of it going back to France scared the life out of me and they have featured on BBC Watchdog for their lack of customer service.

Recently I needed to buy another Sony TV, so I bought it in Power City, MPEG4 so it will work with Saorview, you can get the VAT back if you buy a particular set and also a 5 year guarantee. It was a pleasure to deal with Power City, decent people, sorted out a little misunderstanding with a €70 credit note, so I was very happy.

I've seen a lot of bad reports about Pixmania's after sales care. I would not consider buying such a large and expensive item from them, or from any online retailer really, unless the saving was significant.

It would need to be at least 25% cheaper there for me to consider it, as the hassle you have with returning something that large and expensive should something go wrong, would outweigh a small price difference. If you're buying a TV in store, try and haggle. Most places can offer cash discounts, you just have to ask.
