Nothing wrong with Dunguib, they're keeping him fresh for the better ground and the big pots in the spring.Don't forget he ran a good few times on terrible ground albeit against inferior opposition last year even before Christmas.

ur contradicting urself here.... there keeping him for better ground!!!! fair enough point... But u then contradict urself by saying that he ran last year on terrible ground and won all the races he won... Which is true!!!!.. and remember he only lost his way last year come cheltenham.

He didn't exactly rip up any trees at the Punchestown festival either and connections feel he might be better going to the "big" races this year a fresher horse. No contradictions there at all,he won a lot of races last year on TERRIBLE ground.

Philip Fenton has confirmed that his star hurdler Dunguib will be saved for the second half of the season, in order to have him at his peak for the major prizes in the spring.

The top class bumper performer barely came off the bridle in his four appearances over obstacles last winter but was then beaten at odds-on in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, before finishing only sixth in the Rabobank Champion Hurdle at Punchestown.

Fenton said: “Everything is fine, he’s in good form and we’re very happy with him. He’s just cantering away at the moment and we made the decision that he wouldn’t start off until after Christmas because we don’t want to run him in heavy ground again.”

He added: “We just think that the second half of the season is more important than the first half, so hopefully we’ll see him some time in January.

“The Irish Champion Hurdle might be ambitious for his first run but that might be an option, we’ll just have a look and see nearer the time. I’ve still got every faith in him and he’s in brilliant order.”
Former star bumper performer Dunguib is on course to return to the racecourse in the new year.

His reappearance has yet to be decided but the 2m3f Limestone Lad Hurdle at Naas on January 15 and the 2m Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park a month later are possibilities. The Grade 1 BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on January 23 has also been discussed, but trainer Philip Fenton believes it would be “ambitious for a first run of the season”.

Fenton added: “He’s grand and I’m happy with him so far. The weather would have held him up anyway as, while we have been able to keep them all ticking over, I would have liked to have done a little bit more with him if he was to be running sooner. He’s on track, but where he runs will depend on how ready he is when these races come up. We’ll step up his work in the next few weeks.”

Dunguib was a hugely impressive winner of the 2009 Cheltenham Bumper, beating subsequent Ascot Gold Cup winner Rite Of Passage. However he never proved a natural over hurdles last season despite winning all his races up until the Supreme Novices Hurdle where he finished third to Menorah. He ended the season with a sixth place behind Hurricane Fly at Punchestown

point taken bu why did u state then " he ran a good few times last season before christmas!!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 882 ✭✭✭fr wishy washy

He ran on the 25th October, the 14th November & the 2nd December 2009 all on heavy ground,in my opinion that's 3 races very close together on very bad ground before Xmas and his first race after that was on the 7th of February on you guessed it Heavy ground.

    Connections are trying something different.

look i understand... but going back to ur original post you said...

    1) they are keeping him for better ground in the spring.
Good point and well founded givin what fenton said.( a good idea if the horses does indeed like the better ground)

2)Dont forget the horse ran plenty of times in the winter last year .
Yes we all remember last year when the horse was very successful and picked up alot of races and reputation, i understand they this year want a more spring camaign so why would u state not to forget he ran during the winter last year.(this blog is about horses that have gone off the scene) so your saying he was out last christmas and not this christmas and therefore there is something wrong with him

That's ^^^ what I posted, how can you make that out to be saying there's something wrong with Dunguib?

I said he ran before xmas last year because they ran him on bad ground and they think it did him no favours other than that i wouldn't have commented about it,you really have me baffled as to why you think that I stated that there is something wrong with the horse.
