Go Meteor because there HTC phones are NORMALLY unlocked. My Legend was and the shop assistant said that "the technicians can't handle the software on them"!!

Edit: And unbranded, so faster firmware updates (normally)!

As far as I know the rooting step unlocks it to use any carrier, maybe you should ask someone on that forum they really know their stuff

No, rooting and installing a custom ROM doesn't affect the network lock on Android in general.

I'm surprised it's locked. How recently did you get it? I got mine from Vodafone a couple of weeks ago (end of Nov?) and it came already unlocked in a HTC box with no branding :)

I'd say try a different Vodafone store and see if they'll unlock it... the networks normally don't refuse it.

Edit: Have you actually tried putting the Meteor SIM into the DHD or are you assuming it's locked? Did it come in a HTC box or a Vodafone box?

It's MOST Likely unlocked, ask them saying that you travel alot, and ask can you check is it unlocked!!

I bought it from carphone warehouse online about month or so ago. Day i got it straight away i put meteor sim in and never was able to find any networks tried it few times.

I asked Vodafone about them unlocking for me and they said aint had the phone long enough for them to give me the code.

I came in a htc box and wasnt branded in anyway that i could see from using it.

But did it boot up? Like if it booted into the phone it's unlocked.. Or did it ask you for a network lock code?

I'd try another SIM... if it came in a HTC box, it really should be unlocked already. Might just be one of "those" things. Is there anyone nearby whose SIM you could borrow for a minute to test?

It usually boots up but never finds network.

Sounds more like a SIM or network issue... If the phone is locked, it shouldn't even boot up. It should reject the SIM card and not allow you any further (at least that's my experience with locked phones!).

Maybe you're in a Meteor dead spot? Have you tried the Meteor SIM in another location?

Its unlocked then.. Go into phone and type this: *#*#4636#*#* -> phone information-> scroll down where you see a grey bit (could say WCDMA only, or WCDMA perferred), and change that to GSM auto.

Tried it again same thing phone boots up does not even ask for a pin but will not find any network or even sign into htc. The meteor sim i had is in a sim free phone it worked on other phones before my hero.

Not a bad idea. I'd still try the Meteor SIM in a different location (like in a city centre?). It sounds network or, as a poster above pointed out, a setting thing (WCDMA etc). If it's network, it could be location related (even if the SIM works in a different phone, you never know). If it's a setting, start Googling the DHD settings!

I was lucky that when I bought my DHD from Vodafone, I stuck the Meteor SIM in and it worked first time. Interesting that it wouldn't ask for the PIN, though... maybe that rules out network as it should prompt for the PIN first... somehow the SIM just doesn't like the DHD? See what Meteor say and let us know. Maybe you need a new SIM? *shrug*

Edit: For reference, my DHD on Meteor has the network set as WCDMA preferred and it works. Worth a try changing it, though.

LMFAO! I'm a Stargate nut and I didn't cop that! I blame the fact that it's been an age since I watched SG1! SGA and SGU rarely made reference to the SG1 vernacular ... DHD, GDO, etc!

On topic, any luck with the Dial Home Device, erm, Desire HD?
