Head Gasket Cost

    Hi all,

My mum has a 2007 Opel Astra Twintop.

Steam started coming from the engine this morning - looks like the head gasket is gone.

My old car (06 Astra) had the same problem after about 2 years and they repaired it for free.

Roughly how much would a new head gasket cost from a main dealer (including labour).

Is it a bit mad that a head gasket would go after 3 years?

Can't price is roughly until it is found out why the HG went, ie was there coolant loss that caused the HG to go. Also it depends on the extent of the damage, head could need skimming, may be fine etc etc. Also did your Mum drive far with the needle in the red. So many variables.

Basically she got a Coolant Warning Light yesterday. Pulled in straight away - went and got coolant a put a bottle in. She said the level hadn't gone down too much.

Drove it this morning and noticed steam and stopped straight away.

It's en route to the garage now so we'll have to wait and see I guess.

You might be lucky then. I hope you are.
