So they appear this time of year, everyone seems to cook them at Christmas but who likes them?
I can't stand the blasted things myself, taste awful, look desperate and have a weird texture. Would prefer baked beans than brussel sprouts with my turkey if I had to choose between them.
What do people think of them??? Does anyone actually like the net of green balls?

I like them but they have to be very soft and covered in gravy. Xmas is the only time of year i eat them though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,964 ✭✭✭ToniTuddle

Would people ever man up and just eat them! :D

Throw a bit of sauce on it or something to help take away the flavour. I have them every other week. They are good for ya :pac:

    I love mini cabbages

Second only to the potato, the brussel sprout is one of the greatest vegetables ever known to man. Most people boil the bejesus out of them, ruining their brusselly awesomeness. They must still have a crunch to the middle of them. Firm, yet yielding to the knife. Like how I like my women. They're the goddamn veg of kings.

So yes. I like brussel sprouts and their sprouty goodness.

I don't wanna eat them

I like me sprouts. Lightly cooked, so a little crunchy, & a good dollop of melting butter on top.

Has made me the man I am today ;)

I always tried eating them with no sauce, must be where I went wrong.

Mashed up and lightly fried with garlic butter...yum! Hate them otherwise.

Asparagus is the nicest vegetable in the world. I'd eat it everyday but I heard too much can contribute to kidney stones. Brussell sprouts are nice too, one of my favourite vegetables.

    Fúcking love'em.

Everyone in my house loves them.

Probably to do with the way I coat them in olive oil and honey and roast them.

    They are gorgeous.

    Brussel Sprouts are f*cking superb

I love 'em... the problem is though, that they are often overcooked & that makes 'em smell awful.

Same goes with cabbage.. it needs to be boiled lightly if it's to keep it's texture & taste.

I love brussels roasted with garlic, fried bacon & walnuts. Seriously tasty.

    no.. horrible, just horrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,028 ✭✭✭✭--LOS--

used to hate them, now I love them, they're awesome when cooked right.

also reheat them in the microwave and they burst and spawn like gremlins :D

I used hate them but then i discovered the miracle that is garlic!

fry them up in a bit of garlic and butter (or even better garlic butter... although its nsfw :D) and num num,

i've converted at least 5 people already, cause they taste so darn good and now at home we eat them almost every week!

Most things are edible if they are very soft and covered in gravy. :D

They taste like mini balls of compressed farts.

FFS. Did none of yous get the memo?

Only paedophiles and supporters of headshops eat sprouts.

You lot need to listen to Joe Duffy to keep up to date.:p

I love them. The trick is not to overcook them.

Must try that. I assume you boil them first, before frying them?

Yum, especially cooked in the water used to boil the ham.

Would and do eat almost anything, but sprouts don't even taste like food, more like some sort of dangerous chemical. Absolutely revolting. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,707 ✭✭✭skywalker

Love em. Dont get to eat em enough. Might have to try em with garlic/honey after reading this thread.

Strangely enough though I hate cabbage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,813 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

    Moved -> Cooking & Recipes

Yeah, usually boil them in the same pot I done the ham.
Although frying garlic butter sounds nice.

I hated them as a kid, then grew up and realised they don't taste bad, probably never did. Kids... we trust strangers with sweets, but don't trust rolled up leaves.

All you failed chefs say that about cabbage, it should be boiled da fook for hours in the ham or bacon water, yum.

    +1
If you don't like sprouts you're a freak!
I remember there was an ad for a cereal once and they said one bowl of said cereal had the same nutritional value as eating 6 bowls of cabbage, I used to always think "I'd rather have the 6 bowls of cabbage please"

Hate the bloody things, maybe it's because my mother cooks the shit out of them. Must try them fried with garlic butter, that sounds nice. I love cabbage fried up with a dash of soy sauce haamanahaamana.

I love them, expecially tossed in bacon and butter! Yum.

I remember being in a restaurant in Rome with some friends, when one of then impulse ordered the intriguing sounding 'petit cabbages con bacon', the combined look of disappointment and sheer disgust on her face when a plate of Brussels sprouts arrived was only priceless! :pac:
