This song and video is disgusting. Christmas is a time for Jesus, and the Spirit of Christmas and Santa Claus and children. It makes a pure laughing stock of the Irish to have a song like this reach to number 1. Im praying it doesnt make it. I for one certainly wont down load it and will switch of the radio when it comes on.

I'd much prefer it to the manufactured X-Factor rubbish to be honest.

Then go out and buy up 10,000+ copies of something other than the X-factor single.

I quite like the rubberbandits song. I'm sure Jesus had a horse outside of whatever building he happened to be inside. Or a camel. So it is very appropriate IMO.

Not particularly keen on it myself but in saying that, I don't give a sh*t either way. Good luck to them.

Edit: Just after listening to the interview on Joe Duffy, my opinion has slightly changed on them. And on reflection, the song is not too bad & actually quite well produced. I can't stand Joe Duffy. What a *************

Anyway by starting a thread on Ireland largest message board you're giving them even more publicity ;)

I never heard of them until today when I read about them on boards and then got the liveline podcast

No 1 in itunes Irish store for one example

Brilliant its attitudes like this that will make this Christmas Number 1.

That and its laugh out loud funny.:)

I don't get why the song and video is disgusting?

You have some far out definition of disgusting so. Seriously, the language is nothing a ten year old wouldn't know. "****" is disgusting now?

Fair enough when it goes "I'll ride you like a horse" to the the women, but again doubt too many kids care...

And the radio/tv version is clean. Which basically ruins it anyway.

Also what is religion to do with the Christmas number 1? I say this as a very religious person.

Would Matt Cardle's new song, which is the favourite, be anymore Christian or Christmasy? Nope.

It's just a one off funy song ffs, it will wear off in a few weeks like the Jumbo Breakfast Roll a few years ago.

Na man, it sucks in my opinion, ****e musically as well. But no man, I can't believe I'm saying this, but if I had the choice between that X Factor Biffy Clyro cover (me hating X Factor & severly disliking Biffy), and those awful common things the Rubberbandits do, I would choose X Factor sadly enough - based on hearing 2 songs I don't necessarily like, I chose the one I dislike the least.

FRANK ZAPPA FOR CHRISTMAS NO. 1!!!!!

In the last ten years, the christmas number one has been religious once, Alexandra Burke's cover of Hallelujiah. While being religious, that cover is a crime against nature.

I'm not a fan of the religious aspect of it to be honest as I don't agree with it, but I do feel the festive nature is worth while. I would just rather something which is musically acceptable.

I believe the proceeds go to Barnardos. Great song, its great laughing in the face of scumbags make them realise how pathetic they are!

What has the Christmas number 1 got to do with Jesus or Santa?

It's not like some devil worship song is going to be number 1 and to celebrate we're going to sacrifice a church full of virgins.

How many other years has some random pop crap been Christmas number 1 and nobody has ever batted an eyelid. Why are Jesus and Santa offended this year?

And by the way, Santa is a tool of commercialism that was cleverly tacked on to a religious celebration in order to fool millions of people into parting with their hard earned cash. Let's celebrate that instead.

That's not how it sounded when they were on the radio earlier. I've never once heard it said by someone involved that it was for charity.

You need to listen to the lyrics of Halleljiah a bit harder. This song is many things but it is most definitely NOT religious. I suppose you could say it say its spiritual - I mean its basically a song about la petit mort:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_petite_mort

Still, whilst you are right that that cover is crininal, I suppose there is some small subversive comfort to be had in the fact the millions of goons bought a 'religious' cover version, when in actual fact they were listening to a musical depiction of post orgasmic emptyness/ the loss of a lover - thou I very much doubt Alexandra Burke was aware of that fact (the Simon Cowell may well be)

Not suggesting that the OP is a Rubberbandit. Just that they're trying to promote them.

Yes, having religious sounding words in a song doesn't automatically make it religious. I'd say you'd have to go back as far as Cliff Richard to get a religious Christmas number 1.

What's the relevance of a Christmas number 1 in Ireland anyway? As far as I'm aware it was a big deal in the UK because there used to be a Top Of The Pops special on Christmas Day and if you were number 1 you got to be on it. No relevance here whatsoever. It's not like you get extra money for being number 1 on Christmas or something.

Yes, you're right. He was cleverly dreamed up by a shadowy cabal of international bankers to coerce the ordinary working man into parting with the money they had made and thus keeping them enslaved to the faceless corporations that run this planet. Well that's what Jim Corr told me…

The icon of Santa Claus as we know it was created by Coca Cola. It was part of their advertising campaigns in the 1930s. They based him on a combination of mythical folk-characters and the saint Nicholas. And Jim Corr didn't tell me that ;)

I know the being who was called Jesus the Christ when he walked on this plane. I meet him in the spirit world from time to time , he exists on a level of supreme knowledge and wisdom and because of this he has a very well developed sense of humour. He loves the Rubber Bandits but he can't f**kin stand Joe Duffy :D .

I smell a member of the Joe Duffy brigade here. Get over yourself and your hysteria over a ****ing comedy christmas record. The humour obviously goes way over your head so don't download it or listen to it on the radio. Nobody cares.

how is it disgusting? Im sure you've sworn plenty of times. Christmas is a holiday for everyone. A lot of people in Ireland now aren't even religious or are of other faiths, why can't we celebrate(I don't have any personal interest in religion).

Who care about being the laughing stock anyway? It just shows to the world that the Irish are still about "The Craic". It's part our culture to be up for a laugh and this is a modern way of expressing it.

And your last point, don't download it. I personally couldn't care less what you do. I'll turn off Matt Cardle when it comes on because I don't like that music but you don't see me registering on a forum just to give out about it. I'll the lads about this on th 29th in Limerick :D
