    ... what an insane idea

If you buy a pair of wellies, fill them with hot water, and use 2 old bra-straps to make them airtight, I find that this works just as well.

Don't knock em til you've tried them, my feet are always freezing in winter and my pair are awesome. OP mine are different to them but my aunt got them in TK Maxx about 2 years ago, might be worth a shot anyway, they always have random gift stuff.

I got a pair for my mother a few years ago in my local chemist (Knocknacarra). Dunno if they still have them, but they really are a chemist-y type thing so check your nearest.

What's insane about warm feet? Some ideas to try there anyway, thanks everybody.

Was gonna buy a pair for my girlfriend but think about this..

You microwave these slippers.. you put them on your feet and your feet sweat.. you put them back in the microwave again the following night - where does the sweat go?

    Still want them now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭Theremin

Well, it's a gift, so they won't be in my microwave. Still, marinated foot sweat cuisine, tasty! Maybe you could sell that one to Heston Blumenthal.

Well unless you heat them to fiery temps your feet don't sweat any more than they would in any regular shoes/slippers etc?

If my feet are cold these bring them back up to regular temp, not overheat them.

I have to say OP that while these seem like an excellent gift idea they really are a big...BIG disappointment. I got them for myself & my mum for Christmas a few years ago and they are as uncomfortable as all hell.

They are full of little wheat grains that "sweat" in the microwave (you'll see this on the small print in the label) and the slippers come out of the microwave actually wet. Boiling wheat grains and wet fur are not a good combination. While they seem warm to the touch on the outside on the inside it's like sticking your foot into boiling wet sock...there is the potential for 1st degree burns.

Also it's impossible to walk in them. The grains in the slipper feel like a million little pebbles under your feet and the only protection your foot and them is a sock like material. They're agony just to stand up in.

If you're still determined to get them and can't find them I have two pairs that have only been tried out twice before being consigned to the wardrobe :D
Seriously...they're a lovely idea but save your money or at least try a different brand than the ones on the above link.

On-line? Amazon do 'em, I'm guessing other specialist retailers do too.

Yeah, but do you put "regular shoes / slippers" in the microwave? :D

I'm sure i saw them at the Christmas market, they're on the stall across from the merry-go-round (nearest the Skeff)

Can't get them sent from Amazon/Play type sites as they won't post to Ireland for some reason. Think I've been sold against it by the idea of soggy feet & 3rd degree Burns anyhow. Back to the drawing board.

Bizarrely I saw them today in the We Care pharmacy in lower Salthill. Think they were around 15 quid or thereabouts ...

    think argos have them too

hairyfairy's right - they have them in the market.

Though you should probably just buy them a good pair of normal slippers.

Out of curiosity, before I try it myself, what exactly would happen if you were to put a pair of normal slippers in the microwave?

they'd get warm, then melt/burn ---- keep an eye on them until you've got the timing down

Nice one - one of these days I'm going to buy a microwave and an exceedingly long extension chord, so it will reach outside, and try all those things they told us not to do on Brainiac.

This just got added to the list.

If anyone is still thinking about getting them they are on sale in the newish pound shop type place in the Eyre Sq Center (its called Jackpot or some similiar stupid name). 10euro a pair or a Slanket and a pair of slippers for 16. Have to say the thought of eating something out of the microwave after a pair of slippers being in it would really put me off though.

There are two types. I was warned off the full of seed type. I got some on ebay that have a zip out insert that fits between the outer sole & lining. You unzip the slippers & pop the insert into the microwave.

    You can buy these:

in River Deep Mountain High. They are not cheap but they are really warm & very comfy.

I has given these ones as a gift a couple of Christmasses ago and I have to say they're brilliant.

Unlike some other ones mentioned in the thread, these are not fur lined. They're lined with a kind of fleece and they don't get sweaty / damp at all. You wouldn't walk around the house in them due to the wheat grains that were also mentioned further back, but it's lovely to sit back with them on your feet drinking a nice cup of tea :D Expecially if you've been wearing a pair of Converse all day in the snow (coldest shoes ever!!). They really do the job of warming up cold feet.

Yeah they're the type I have, so you don't have to put the "sweaty" slippers into the microwave, just the insert.
