Just wondering if anyone has experience of transferring their car insurance to the UK. My son is currently insured here but will be moving to the UK after Christmas for 7 months. His current policy will only cover him for 31 days. I've checked with AXA UK and they insist on 9 months residency to cover him. Does anyone have an recommendations or could he take out 12 months insurance and then just cancel it when he leaves and hopefully get a refund for the remaining 5 months ??
    Any advice would be appreciated

He will need to get his car registered in the UK to be legally allowed to drive it long term, he would probably get away with it for a month or two.

Try Adrian Flux they will register it on a VIN number as you don't have a UK registration number.

be careful in the UK to have everything as it should be.they are much more efficiant there at checking than here.

UK Insurance is dirt cheap compared to here and noone will ask him if he is from abroad if he ahs an address to give.Quite common to pay monthly there too

He might consider buying a cheap banger with 7 months T&T on it (Ebay is your friend) and parking his own up until he returns. I did this when I had a need and bought for £300, and got my money back more or less when it came time to move it on.

It's going to be easier to insure a car registered in the UK.. Most companies will recognise any NCB he has from Ireland too!

Buy a car on Ebay with 12months T & T... insure that. Then ebay it a again in 7 months. Always, always buy a car with MOT!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. Looks like he will have a few decisions to make when he comes home for Christmas. :D
