    Hi,

As the title states, I lost my job last week and I'm thinking of moving abroad to work next September. The trouble is I have no idea where to start looking. I'm not interested in Australia or New Zealand. I've been on the Usit website and they only cover the basic visas to these destinations. I've always loved Asia and would definitely consider looking into destinations there but have no idea where to look. Are there any good informational websites (other than Usit) or information packages I can get? My minds a mess right now and I'm looking to get some direction.

    Cheers in advance.

What did you work at. How many years experience had you?

You could teach english in Asia and travel, Japan, korea or China, long term only though (year min) or get short term work elsewhere in Asia.

I worked in a company that imports and distributes tools. Did a bit of everything from driving around Ireland and the UK setting up store concepts to working in the warehouse. I've 2 years experience.

I also opened a retail clothing store in Dublin in 2005. The store was open for just over a year.

Currently, I own and run my own eBay store but that's just in my spare time - iphone cases and such, nothing major.

I've a cert in Retail marketing, a pass degree in Business Management and a first class honours in Business Studies.

I'm not really sure what type of job to go for. Never really knew what I was good at. I've been told that I'm good with ideas so maybe some sort of marketing job? Really don't know. I posted above what I did in college in the hope that maybe someone can give me a bit of direction?

I've watched friends either lose their jobs or not get jobs when they left college and spend over a year looking. I have savings and I really don't want to spend several months to a year without a job wasting away my savings and have nothing at the end so that's why I'm thinking of moving.

    I'm 27.

If I go, I don't want to come back in a year and start all over again. Maybe a paid internship with a view to staying on after?

im in a similar position myself. Me and the missus are thinking of going to thailand if things don't get any better here. Are you thinking of going alone or with boyfriend/gf/mates?

usit do a month's volunteering program, building houses etc in thailand.

otherwise they also do a minimum 5 month teaching english programme. Fas also do them. Not bad pay (but not amazing). standard of living is completely different though.

you seem to have a decent education tho so maybe there's something better out there for you in ireland? Have you actually tried lookin for a job here yet?

A mate from college wants to go too. I've looked at teaching/voluntary work - looks amazing but I'm looking for something permanent. You'll love Thailand, I was there for a few weeks 3 years ago and loved every minute of it. That was the first time I knew I wanted to work and live abroad.

Pretty scared to be honest. I'm not trying to put myself down here but I've never really seen myself working in an organisation - I think I'd mess up my job. I tend to look at things differently and interpret things differently too. A lot of what people say in work goes over my head - don't know why. Suppose it can be a good thing or a bad thing. That's why I've always tried to do something myself. I'm gonna go to career guidance I think to see what I'd be good at.

Well it doesnt sound like you've got a fella/family so why not go for it? ive been to thailand too, did the round trip thing with the GF, was great. dunno if i could spend a year there though, they have tropical downpours 8 months of the year and there's no gettin away from them! a mate of mine is working at the mo in asia and he told me when he got over there that your work experience and cv isnt recognised like it is over here. personal relationships are more important, loyalty, etc. it's a real "workin for the man" economy and he says it can be a downer at times. so he says anyway, that's his opinion not mine!

You didnt mention if you've actually gone job hunting here yet? any luck?
