Megane boot/fog light problem

I recently bought a 04 Renault Megane at auction. I got a good deal on the car but had to sort a few things on it. The last of which is that the boot doesn't open and the rear fog light is also out of action. The boot should open with the button on the key but it doesn't. My mechanic who took care of the rest of the things needing sorting on the car was supposed to take care of it tonight but he couldn't get to the root of the problem either. He thought it might have been a broken wire but after opening the boot internally and striping back the panels it clearly isn't. He said he'd talk to a freind of his at Renault but it'll be a few days.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

As I said, the boot and rear fog light don't work but the rear lights and reverse lights do. I'm stumped and really can't afford to throw much more money at the problem. :(

Fog light might only be a bulb or a fuse. You wont know until you get the boot open. Have you checked the fuses.

BTW dont tell anyone here you use foglights...:D:D

Bit of a wacky theory but....On some cars they have two rear fog light sockets but only one that is designed to work and the side that works is depending on if you drive on the left or right side of the road, perhaps you are concentrating your efforts on the light that is disabled and you should look at the one on the opposite side?

After my mechanic checked it he said that there is little or no voltage getting to the boot/fog light. This is the problem but where it originates is still a mystery for now.

Boot release switch might be your problem. Had the same problem on a neighbours Megane hatchback.

Climb into the boot from inside the car. On the lock there should be a small pin, push it over to the opposite side (gently does it!) and the boot should open.

Once open remove the lock and connectors, the wiring is contained in a black pipe.Try seeing if wires are broken or if the connectors are corroded. Refit and see if it works.
