A couple of days ago I hired a plumber to change the taps on my bathroom sink but I have just noticed that the taps he removed have still got 2 earth wires strapped to the copper pipes where he seems to have cut straight through the wires and just left the remianing wires hanging down the back of my sink. Could someone please advice if this is normal practice for a plumber to do.

    Thanks.

I'm not saying its right or wrong but I do the same, I use polyplumb plastic pipes alot and you can't earth them. If you where to earth you would need to earth on either side of every poly joint or pipe that is onto copper which is pretty impossible and a waste of materials to do.

I am ment to advise you to get an electrican to re fit some earthwire but if it were me i would do it. Its a simple job

Surely the earth wires are there for a reason and to just snip them is irresponsible ? He also pushed the remaining wire back into the boxing behind my sink making it impossible for me to retrieve them without having to break a tile and making an access hole.

Its part of electrical continuity... he will argue that he cut them to adjust the taps and he is not an electrican so cannot re attach them which legally is correct

However i would simply re attach them...

Thanks for advise joey but afraid it's not that simple, he pushed the wires out of my reach and I did only discover what he did by accident he had no intention of informing me. I called this plumber out to finish the job my first plumber failed to finish and now I have just discovered that the first plumber also made a mess of what he did so now I have to find a third plumber to sort that out. Can't seem to find a decent plumber anywhere!!

On the other hand, Joey The Lips might know someone or yoshytoshy might be able to help you out.

Thanks Fingers, I need someone who knows a bit about whirpool baths, plumber made a total mess and all water is draining out, however from speaking to the manufacturer the fix is not that big of a job so if anyone can recommend someone would appreciate it. Loosing my mind at this stage!!!

The Plumber said he couldn't fit the overflow and drain that they provided and just fit a regular one (without my knowledge) apparently on the one that they provide there is a connection that a small drain pipe (runs from the pump) is supposed to connect into and then when you press on the overflow cover this causes the plug to seal a valve which stops water running out from the small drain pipe (when the jets are running), however because he fit his own drain he decided to connect the small drain pipe directly into the main drain pipe which means that when I turn on the jets half the water in the bath drains away. The worst part is that he totally destroyed the fitting that they provided by covering it in silicone and I now need to re order this part from the UK and pay another £70 for it and then find someone to undo all his mistake.

Regarding the Earth wires, It's not really a big deal if they're not attached to the new pipes, i've never come across someone getting a shock off a tap, but that's not the point. They were on the original ones and it doesn't take an electritian to unscrew and reattach two earth clamps, so he should have either put them back on or told you about them, not hiding them in the boxing! Thats just being Lazy!

Rule of thumb, "If it's there before you start, Make sure it's there when you finish!"

and just to add to that he also pulled half of the wires out of the control box and I had to get an electrician up to fix that so this bathroom is ending up costing me an absolute fortune that I don't have and it is still not finished!!

And regarding the Bath, have you tried getting back on to the plumber and ask get him to sort out the bath seen as he made a mess f installing it and it doesn't work rite???

Did he do it as a cash in hand nixer or was it an "on the books" job??
