Hi all Ive recently got a new programme done out by a trainer after pumpin hard for 2 years myself..wasnt getting results i wanted so asked for the programme.
Basically Im doing dumbell curls weighted chins and dumbell flat chest press 3 times a week, with 3 sets of each, roughly 8 reps. Ive learnt in the past the hard way of gaining no size from training too many times a week. although Im going up in the weights every week or so my arms are starting to look skinnier...I reckon I should be doing these exercises no more than twice a week with at least 4 days recovery in between.....my stats by the way are 5'8, 12.3stone, eating 3000-4000cals per day, db flat press 8x 32.5kg, chins +10kgx8

Could be over training alright. Damned if I could do squats/bench/dips/weighted pull-ups etc three times a week. Mightn't suit you. Look over some of the fitness logs on here.

na the chaps fairly big, said it was to mix up my routine a bit for a while before going back to the old one. Also to improve flexibility in some areas like chest before going back to barbell press. maybe he thinks my core fitness needs work in these areas ?

I don't think it could be much further from starting strength.

Sounds like he really doesn't know what he's talking about. Completely unbalanced and unstructured, his answers to your questions lead to the same conclusion.

hey cymk what do ya mean the same conclusion? just that its ****e?
Dunno what to do now...whether to just abandon it immediately and face the awkwardness or see it out and hope the next one he gives me is back to normality with deads squats bench rows dips and chins :)

MISSION ABORT. Drop it and dont waste your time.

    try:
    push, pull, legs routine
    OR
    Starting strenght
    OR
anything other than that crap routine.

Something like this should do the trick, 3 days a week max. High intensity. And if you can do an extra set, do it. dont just do 3 sets and move on, especially if the 3 sets are easy, up the weight if 3 sets are easy.
I would usually do a couple warm up sets and then go heavy for 3 sets, if i can do another one i will but i usually cant, and next time i increase the weight if i did more than 3 sets prev time. Also you might want to play around woth Rep ranges as well, and different sets per excercise.

Example, Squats - warm up set(1 or 2) light weight 10 reps - heavy weight 4 sets 5-6reps.

    Day 1
    Deadlift
    Bent Over Rows
    Pull Ups
    Bicep Isolation (optional)

    Day 2
    Bench Press
    Overhead Press
    Dips
    Tricep Isolation (optional)

    Day 3
    Squat
    Lunges
    SLDL/Good Mornings
    Calf Raise

Make sure you are eating enough food as well, my guess is your training is not great and your diet prob isnt too. post up your daily diet as well so someone can help you.

There's seemingly not much logic behind it. There are movements missing. I'd imagine you're asking the question here because you came to a similar conclusion yourself?
