Hi All, Just looking for some information here. I managed to drag my friend to the Dr today after she told me 1 month ago that she found a lump. She kept making excuses not to go. The Dr said that she would send her for emergency tests. My friend is absolutely distraught. I'm the only one who knows, she won't tell her family. Does anyone know roughly how soon do they usually call people into hospital for these tests (any experience) and then when the tests are done how soon will she get the results. I feel so helpless and don't know what to say

Tests within a month, results in a few days, is the experience of a friend of mine.

hmm.My sister got it checked quickly, tested pretty quick - but had to wait 9 months for the results.

Just another side of the story.Doesn't mean it will be the same for your friend

I've never seen that happen, it should never happen. She should be asking serious questions.

i found a lump last november went to Doctor, was seen by a specialist and had an operation to have it removed all before mid december.
It was all very efficient. They can generally have tests results back in a couple of days and depending on the age of your friend if she can mamogram or an ultra sound they can see the position and size straight away.

Hi Everyone, just to update you. She got an appointment for the 13th of Jan which I thought was a bit of a wait so I told her to call up and try to get it a little earlier so it has now been moved to the 6th. I have told her to try to put it to the back of her mind until then and try to enjoy christmas.

Thanks everyone for your advise and experiences. I'll let you know how she gets on.

Hope all works out well for your friend, and well done on getting her to go. She 's gonna need your support a lot over the next few weeks, especially if she decides not to tell her family. It is an agonising wait, no matter how short. Personally i would advise her to tell them as Christmas can yield enough family tension (in my personal experience anyway!) without her being uptight and family not knowing why.
Was in same position myself last year and loathed going to doc! Doc referred me to Beaumont and have to say they were fantastic. Guidelines are that for urgent/high risk (family history etc) you get appt within 2 weeks and others within 1 month. I wasn't urgent but got mine within 2 weeks anyway. They were fantastic, understanding (i got really upset during physical exam), thorough and very reassuring. Got my all-clear verbally on the day from physical exam and 2 separate people in the ultrasound department (they don't confer so they have independent evaluation)
Make sure your friend has someone dependable with her on the day as it can be a bit harrowing, as great as the staff are, you do need a friend. Good luck and hope all works out!

Just to update you, my friend went in for the tests yesterday and they could tell from the mammogram and ultrasound that it is a cyst. THANK GOD :)
She has to go back in 3 months to get it checked and possibly drained but i'm so grateful that this had a happy ending.

A big thankyou for all your advise and support here :):)
