    Hey all,

Bit of a dilemma - I have my Christmas party tomorrow night and it looks like I'll have to go for either the last train home from Heuston @ 11pm or the last bus home from Bus Aras @ 11. My question is; is there any other way to get home to newbridge that night\early the next morning???

I know there is a taxi but that would be expensive and I want to make sure there are no other bus services that would be operating that I dont know about. Neither the Bus Eireann nitelink or late night luas is working either.

    Thanks for any help!

Why not splash the cash and just get a limo?

Just walk, you can cover incredible distances walking while drunk.

+1 for this. A few people from my job who live in Dundalk, Clane and Maynooth chipped in and got a treble room in Jury's Parnell st for €60. Thats a bargain. Sure I spent €15 on a taxi to Santry.

A taxi to Newbridge should be about €80; less if you book through one of the companies that offer a discount or if you have a friend in the trade. If you could share with somebody going back Tallaght/Clondalkin way it would also help you a bit but I'd personally suggest you get a room for the night for comfort as much as anything.

That's what it comes in on the meter from the city centre to Newbridge, give or take a € or the part of town you are coming from.

Corkie it may shock you but the amount of fares to the likes of Newbridge by the average taxi come up less than one a year. Welcome money in by all means but it's not exactly bread and butter income for us.

No hassle. I don't whine about runs like them when they come, nice open road and the time flies :)

Actually quick question off topic. With the diesel increase do taxi prices increase or do you take the hit. I am glad I bought a fill of diesel before the increase.

42.7 km ~= 39 mins and the same coming back (driver wouldn't be able to pick up in Kildare and is unlikely to get a fare before Clondalkin). Suddenly its not so lucrative.

    Fare structure here: http://www.taxireg.ie/consumer/national-maximum-taxi-fare.html

    Hire including first km €4.10 = €4.10
    Next 14km @ €1.03 per km = €14.42
    Next 15km @ €1.35 per km = €20.25
    Next 12.7km @ €1.77 per km = €22.48
Total €61.25 + extra passengers, unsociable hours, etc.

Blame the regulator she was the one who increased the fares in 2008 against the wishes of most taxi drivers.
If you really want to go home rather than stay in town the best thing to do is see how many are going in the same direction so between four of you the cost is not too bad :)

the regulator simply sets the MAX price, you are not forced to charge that...

its a damn site more lucrative than sitting at a taxi rank, or cruising up and down Dame street. €80 in 80 minutes is probably extremely good going for a Dublin taxi driver.

On this topic I left a Christmas party in the Market bar last Friday and went to get a taxi at College Green rank. Left it 40 mins later still hadn't got a taxi. Walked down to Pearse st Station before I found one.

looks like the good old times are back.
