00/01 318ci bmw v 02+ Query

Hi, I test drove a few 00 and 01 318ci's before buying a 00 nearly 3 years ago, the accelerator on them all was very heavy. My bro has an 02 318ci and its a much lighter drive. i know the car received an engine upgrade from 02 on and maybe its is fly by wire as opposed to throttle cable?

The obviouse difference that stands out for me is the engine change between the two. The 00 318ci had a 1.9 litre 8v engine with 118bhp compared to the newer 2.0 litre 16v valvetronic engine with 141bhp. The newer engine is also over 1 second faster from 0 to 62mph. BMW may also have tinkered with the throttle and other bits.

Hi OP

Yes im pretty sure the N42 has electronic Throttle whereas the older M43 had cable throttle although the additional power would make a sizeable difference including less mileage would more than likely make the 02 a tighter drive.
