Heh, Julia Stiles is up for best supporting actress? I guess they are picking the nominees out of a hat.

It is about frecking time Katey Sagal was nominated for Sons of Anarchy

Just another copy and paste job from 2010. I don't know if it's the people making the show or the people picking the nominees but it's depressing how similar the listings are every year.

I like Piper Perabo, but best actress? Slim pickings this year? :)

No Breaking Bad for best Drama but Dexter(after by far it's worst season) and the mediocre(after the pilot) Walking Dead get noms? What bizzaro world is this?

No Justified either, which is a joke. And the usual suspects got snubbed again, Community, IASIP, Friday Night Lights etc.

At least the awards are consistent. I'm sick of seeing the exact same people in the comedy awards year after year.

Justified and Timothy Olyphant was a bad snub :(

Jon Hamm for best actor anyway. AMC moved back the start of last seasons Breaking Bad so Mad Men would end closer to the GGs (so goes the industry buzz anyway) givin Hamm a better chance over serial Globe winner Bryan Cranston.

Both the Mad Men & Dexter season finales were poor but over the year I'd say MM shades it. Boardwalk Empire has been getting great reviews and it's next on my list of things so I wouldn't be surprised if they go for that. As Chalkitdown says the omission of Breaking Bad is bizarre. Maybe the judges are sick of the sight of Bryan & co :D

Modern Family for Comedy I'd say. Glee is about as funny as cancer. BBT has improved hugely but I don't know if it's "mainstream" enough to win.

Comedy Actor is all kinds of meh. I honestly couldn't pick one out of that bland list.

Actress, Elizabeth Moss had a great season on Mad Men and deserves an award in her own right at this stage.

Haven't seen any of the other nominees for comedy actress bar Tina Fey who was ok but unspectacular this year. I'd have gone with Jane Krakowski for this season gone.

The Pacific was great. Slow to get going but ended with a big punch.

Joseph Mazzello definitely deserved a nomination for The Pacific. He really played the weedy guy turned cold blooded killer well.

Mini-series actress, can't pick one really.

Supporting Actor, I'd have liked to see Justin Kirk from Weeds in there. He's was stand out of the season on that show. Stonestreet will probably win.

Supporting Actress, Julia Stiles was only average on Dexter (much like the season). I've heard Kelly MacDonald is great in Boardwalk so I'll plump for her.

I'm actually delighted that Pillarz Of The Earth got some love, it wasn't a mind blowing mini series, but it was still pretty good with decent production values. IMO....too many Glee actors nominated that don't deserve the noms.

Morrison, Michelle and Colfer don't deserve those noms, no love at all for Spartacus????????....ffs!!

"The Walking Dead"? Seriously? Seriously? And no "Breaking Bad"? Seriously? Seriously?
    Utter crap.

Breaking Bad had possibly its strongest season and Dexter probably had its weakest season and what does/doesnt get nominated?

    Go figure.

No Community and no Chuck seems very odd for this list IMO.

No Raising Hope :( - the best new comedy

I think Linney is a shoe in for best comedy tv actress

    what about Treme? FFS

i really want Jon Hamm to get the win this year! i think he deserves it...thought he has been brilliant again this year!

Was very disappointed with Dexter this year and i thought the finale wasnt great and as much as Mad Men finale wasnt great either, i think it should win ahead.

Modern Family for comedy and hope Eric Stonestreet wins again and Sofia Vergara is just brilliant aswell

I cant believe Julia Stiles got a nomination...god i dislike her immensely. i get she was a big part in Dexter but still...blah

+1 with Elizabeth Moss in Mad Men this year..she could get it

I like Glee for what it is but nobody deserves acting awards for that show, especially not Matthew Morrison.

I know it shouldn't surprise me after 5 years of it being ignored, but not one bloody nomination for Friday Night Lights!! NOT ONE!!

I know this is the TV section so I won't get into it here, but the film nominations are hilarious, it's like they were all on crack or something when they did them.

^+1 yup....FNL always gets ignored, lots of commentators and fans have noted this.

Just looking at the nominations for "Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series". In the history of Golden Globes, has there ever been that strong a set of actors.

I've only seen a handful of episodes of Boarwalk, but I think Steve Buscemi will probably get it due to the size of the show. Hugh Laurie, Jon Hamm and Michael C Hall have all had their day in the sun, and not to say it can't be won twice, I just see Buscemi taking it.

Personally though, I'd love Bryan Cranston to sneak it!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

I wouldn't mind Hugh Laurie taking the gong tbh....but Buscemi is a strong contender, as long as Julia Stiles dosen't win....or, god forbid....Piper Perabo!, i'm ok.

What does John Noble have to do!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭SSK

No Kyle Chandler, so for that reason I'm out

Breaking Bad shafted as well...the Emmy's are way better anyway

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 856 ✭✭✭D e e

Nurse Jackie is a comedy? Really? I have only seen two eps of S2 but it's more like a drama with a little humor mixed in IMO. Definitely doesn't deserve to be up for a "best comedy" award when a great comedy like Community isn't on the list. Wonder why they were snubbed...

Another thing that bugs me.. Steve carrel being nominated for the Office. That is one of my favorite tv shows but the last few seasons have been a trainwreck and the material they give him is fairly awful. Sure, he works well with what he's given, but there are other leads that should be on that list instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭KerranJast

The Golden Globes are notoriously corrupt tbh. Studio execs have outright admitted to bribing the judges in the past so I wouldn't get hung up on the nominees.
As previously mentioned the Emmys are the most accurate and prestigious award for TV work.

^ so who did Piper Perabo shag to get that nom?....it's by far the most bizzare nomination i've ever seen!

Yeah, Glee is an enjoyable show, but Matthew Morrison doesn't exactly push the boat out with his acting.

I agree Matthew and Lea dont deserve the nominations but Jane and Chris do imo and I also thought Heather Morris aka Britttany would have got a nomination

    how do you know that;):p

thought breaking bad got blackballed this year, id say somthing if it didnt win 3 or 4 awards, but it only got one nomination for best actor, id at least have thought it get a nom for best drama, it was its best season yet,

how did The Walking Dead get in ahead of it, i dont watch Dexter, Mad Men or The Good Wife, do people think there better than Breaking Bad

To be fair I think Boardwalk Empire, The Good Wife and Mad Men did deserve their nominations as best tv drama. I wasnt a fan of Dexter season 5 and I dont see how The Walking Dead got nominated.

The nomination for Cranston was the first nomination of any kind that Breaking Bad has had at the Globes, it's a complete shambles.

Utter rubbish, but I'm sure Bryan's 3 Emmys soften the blow :pac:

The Golden Globes are a really bizarre award ceremony. Are they taken seriously in Hollywood?
