Fed Up!

    Hi,
I have been feeling absolutely fed up of late. And I'm not sure with exactly what - seems to be just everything.
I'm in a good job, got a loving other half, and own a nice house together.
I don't know what exactly has be in this mood but I just feel like I dont care about anyof the above and don't want any of it.
Even recently at work a colleague said she had never seen me in such bad form. I was usually in good form.

A lot of negative thoughts have been in my head lately. I've started thinking a lot about death and whether there is an afterlife.
I've even started to get upset watching tv - watching the news and the road safety ads get me upset and they never did before.
I've just felt down in myself recently and even to the point where I'm ignoring my other half who has been nothing but fantastic.
And at work I'm just not bothered with making conversation with others or even arranging to meet up with friends.
I think I am fed up with people in general and their pettiness, bitchiness and self centredness!

I wake up the next morning and hate being like this but there is no change!

If you cant find any personal or professional reasons to explain why you feel this way than maybe you should speak with your doctor. Cant hurt to explore a medical route to explain your current feelings.

Maybe you need to engross yourself in stuff that normally you might not bother with.
For example books about philosophy, interesting stuff that explores the 'why-are-we-here', maybe stuff about spirituality; (I am atheist, although I believe in an afterlife)-so I'm not trying to peddle any religion here!

Thinking about death and mortality is not neccessarily a negative thing to do. In fact, death is a part of life, denial of it is a bit crazy.

Perhaps explore how people deal with terminal illnesses and look into the working lives of people who deal with dying everyday as part of their jobs.

It seems from your post that you are bored and frustrated.
Maybe its a yearning to get out of your comfort zone, and at least think about stuff thats beyond the day to day.

A good bookshop is a good start, or even try to jot down thoughts going on in your head and see if there are questions you have that you might want to explore further?

OP - you need to expand your life a bit.

Stop pondering death. You notice that when you started thinking about this stuff, you were naturally drawn to noticing more and more things about death - programs/words in songs/articles whatever else?? That's your brain playing tricks on you.

Once you flick a switch with negative thoughts, it can be hard to turn off but it can be done. I'd suggest visiting a GP first.Just for a chat.I doubt you need pills or anything...they may refer you to a counsellor, but even be a bit wary of that, you're probably not quite that bad. You might just need someone to talk to.

Can you try and take up a couple of new hobbies for starters?Something that's just for you. Gets you out of the house.Secondly, maybe try and freshen up the relationship....not that there's anything wrong with it, but just for a bit of variety.

I'm stuck in a rut a bit at the moment, due to unemployment and I'm sitting here over-thinking everything everyday. The more you think about something, the more your mind obsesses on it, and the more it intrudes on your life. You're obviously feeling a bit down in general - can you consider taking a holiday or something?Life gets the better of us all sometimes, for no apparent reason other than "just stuff".There doesn't always have to be a concrete reason or problem.

I've been floating in the Long term illness forum lately, and have recommended a book over there that I found quite good, so I'll recommend it again here. I've been reading "Stop Thinking, Start Living" by Richard Carlson, and I find it quite good. If nothing else, it might give you an insight into how to turn your thoughts in more positive directions.

    Hope that helps!

I think you are right! I am bored and frustrated!! I think with life in general. :(
Think its the mundane 9-6 day and each week/month/year is just drifting by. Reminds me of that Killers song - 'Living for the Weekend'. On top of that I spend an hr commuting in morning and again in evening. Though I do get to read a lot on the commute so maybe I'm looking for excuses. And don't know what the real reason(s) is for my current state.

I thought the christmas break would help but unfortunately made very little difference.

Maybe I just need to think more positively!!
