How does this scam work

    Hi with adverts down at the weekend i decided to sell something on gumtree for a change i got this email from some one and i am almost sure it is a scam but how does it work if i get the money before i send the item and send it by reg post ?

    Here is the email

    This is my first time buying something on Gumtree,i Was introduce to
    this site by my boss in the office,You've got nice item on here.I will
    like to purchase this item for a close friend as an Xmas gift and i
    will offer you £410.00 for the item. So i want you to get back to me
    with your PayPal email address or send me PayPal money request ASAP
    because i will be paying for this item immediately. Here is my PayPal
    ID you will send the money request to.(xxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com)

    Registered post isn't always a done deal. Some of these goofs have ways of getting items without signing for them. If you think its a scam then I'd just go with your instinct and ignore it.

    Obvious scam is obvious. He keeps referring to it as "the item", why not actually refer to it by it's name? This is classic scam, as they just copy and paste the same text into hundreds of emails. They never mention specifics, because they probably don't even know what it is they're buying.

    The Paypal payment will come from a compromised account, or be funded from a stolen card. When the real card holder sees what has happened, the money will be taken back from you, and you will have no right of appeal. You are guaranteed to lose.

    Ignore this scammer, and add their full email address to the Scammer List that is stickied at the top of the forum.
