Eggy Burps

I've had really eggy burps all day. Since I find this rather amusing I ran it through google to see what I could find about why I was belching eggs and all I could find was sites prophesying surprise vomiting and advising a rapid visit to the doctor.

So, what's the deal with eggy burps? Is what I encountered merely American hypochondria or are eggy burps a ticking time bomb? Ever had them? Any idea what causes them, or how to get rid of them?

I had a feed of nachos on sunday and my farts smell like eggs.

Just thought I'd share that with everyone.

A symptom of indigestion, used to get it a lot when I was younger.. only rarely nowadays as my body is used to the amount of crap I ingest

I remember this ,years a go my mate had it and it was so bad that it actually smelled like a bad egg fart. You would have to open the windows. He said it tasted like sh!t literally and he would gag or get sick when he belched. If I remember right he did go to the doctor and he prescribed him some kind of tablet which got rid of it

    I've had unexplained eggy farts....

Could Guinness explain it? It does for me.

Same here. It passed and I haven't had the old eggy burp in a long, long time (+20 years). I used to have lots of gastric problems when I was a teenager but since I discovered alcohol the problem has disappeared.

It had nothing to with the amount of eggs or egg products that I did/did not consume.

Now I suffer from Guinness farts. Much more fun ;)

It's a common enough problem apparently but oddly enough it's never been properly investigated. I'll take an educated guess at what's happening.

That "eggy" smell is actually a compound of sulfur which is the same gas released from rotting eggs. As we all know, there are many species of bacteria in our stomachs, some are aerobic and some are anaerobic. Anaerobic bacteria generally excrete sulfur gas compounds and that's what's causing your "Eggy Burps". So the only logical solution is to somehow increase the oxygen levels in your digestive system or take a suitable antibiotic. That's probably oversimplified but you'll get the general gist of what's going on.

I saw a porn film called that once. They'd cleverly titled it GiardiASSis.

Well, I've no tonsils so I guess it must be a combination of Giardiasis, gastroenteritis, lupus, mono, and bubonic plague. Ah well, hopefully the diseases will be so busy figting among themselves that I'll be alright.

Any experienced Mother will tell you that her child/ren usually complain of "eggy burps" right before a period of vomiting!

Serious answer - it sounds to me like you may have gastroentertis.
The usual remedy is to fast for 24 hours, while taking plenty of clear fluids. (Water, hydration remedies from the chemist, or "flat" seven-up)

The theory, in brief, is to fast, so that germs in your stomach have nowhere to thrive, and drink fluids to avoid dehydration, and also to wash the germ out of your system - whether those germs go up or down makes no difference.......:D

If you do have gastroenteritis, and you haven't stopped vomiting after 24 hours, or feel particularly unwell during those 24 hours/have any unusual symptoms, you should, of course, seek medical advice.

    Good luck.

    Noreen

Do you ever get those farts that are silent, wet and feel like your blowing up a hot air baloon with your arse?

then when the spew of gas is realised you can taste it before you smell it, its like a thick mist that floats in front of your face?

Anyone get these? Like labour pains before droppin a baby shite!

When I eat Taco Fries my arse usually ends up looking like a chewed orange the next day.

How can something so right be so wrong???

A better question might be to ask how you know what your arsehole looks like ?

    I'm sure I've posted this before, but imo it deserves a retelling;

Apparently my "eggy breath" woke my girlfriend up in the middle of the night ages ago, she was just about to give out when she realised that she'd shifted around in her sleep and her face was actually adjacent to my arse...

Many years ago, a mate of mine borrowed a Panasonic 3DO games machine from his job for Christmas, and I got a major dose of egg belches that made everyone feel ill on the day we were all playing Need for Speed. I found it really funny of course, but these things seemed to stick to the wall in the room and refused to leave.

After Christmas he brought the games machine back to the shop he worked in and somebody bought it as ex demo stock. They actually brought it back for a refund because they said there was a horrible and inexplicable smell of eggs coming off it. One of the funniest moments I ever had :D

Ye're getting me worried now :) I'm still burping lots but it's no longer eggy, so maybe that's good, or maybe it's just phase 2 of some lurgy, only time will tell.
