Nissan Qashqai

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice from anyone with some knowledge of the motor trade.

I want to buy a Nissan Qashqai in 2011, probably around April/May. I have a 00 Ford Focus with very low milage and in top condition to trade/scrap/sell.

What would be the best value for me? Scrap the focus under the government scrappage and buy brand new? Sell the focus and buy a second hand Qashqai?

I hope to have 10-12k cash as a deposit and will most likely finance the rest, probably with a credit union loan.

Any advice? A friend mentioned trying to find an ex-showroom model early in the year, would I still be able to get government scrappage on that?

    Cheers.

You won't get scrappage off anything that has been registered. Scrappage is a discount off the VRT payable on a car.

Cars that dealers put in the showroom quite often have options loaded on to them so they look good. As it's not costing the dealer anything to have in the showroom they'll hold out for the right price.

If your Focus is in very good condition, you should be able to sell it privately for more than €1,250, which is all you get from the government on scrappage, anything on top of that is discount from the dealer or manufacturer. You should also be able to push for a better deal as a cash dealer rather than with a trade in.

The 00 Focus would be worth a few bob if its tested. It depends on how good of a scrappage deal from Nissan as in how much will they give you along with the goverment scrappage.

Thanks for the info guys, I haven't a clue when it comes to buying/selling a car, my dad used to come with me and sort it all out for me :(

I know of one Nissan dealer that would give €4000 scrappage on the focus if I was buying new (basing it on an offer advertised on their website and because this it what a friend got for her 00 focus estate)

4k isnt too bad. I dont think the focus would be worth more than 1500 euro. You will have a brand new car with a manufacturers warranty that hasnt been driven by anyone else except you..:)

I've just done a scrappage deal to get a new Qashqai 1.6 XE. Nissan are doing triple scrappage so they gave me €3750 off the list price, got it for €19445. So given your 10k-12k deposit you'd need to finance the remaining 7.5k-9.5k to get your new wheels. Of course, you might be able to squeeze a little more out of Nissan later in the year and I could in January.
