So i was browsing through the Hard Drive the other nite for something to watch and cam across the old Power Rangers Movie from the late 90's and it got me thinking.

It would be really cool to see a new revamped version of this franchise to hit the screens, something a little more serious with decent actors, writers and a good storyline. I loved the MMPR series as a kid (all the "new Rangers" sucked though).

So has anybody out ther got any ideas what they'd like to see or who they'd like to see in it???

I think with all the comic book movies about and available to have movies made about them, a "serious" Power Rangers movie would be pointless. I did love that film as a kid though., although I'm cringing just thinking about it now

I bought the DVD a couple months ago. I appreciate the cheese more now. Still an awesome film. :)

i remember when i was younger i thought the power rangers aimed at an older audience, perhaps with the red ranger dealing with a drug addiction while having to be the spearhead of the team and other such situations but thinking about it now... ivan ooze was a masterpiece - no amount of enhanced special effects, a-list actors, extended, edited plots or anything else could be better than the original. it's similar to pokemon (the games); star wars (the original trilogy); lord of the rings (the films) - they just were made at the right time and the right place.

God. That was a great movie. Of course, that's what the 10 year old me thought.

I have to disagree with you the man, I think that seen as "Superhero Movies" are all the rage now, it would be a perfect time to reinvent the Rangers.

Personally I think there's be a good audience for it

Define Serious though. Do you mean with regards to a dark re-invention akin to that seen with Batman Begins, the Dark Knight etc? If this is the case, I can't see that working whatsoever. Power Rangers is, and forever will be, an extremely light child friendly show. Admittedly they did cover some tough topics, but I just can't see it working.

    Good man yourself :)

Not as dark as BB or TDK but something more "all audiendce friendly". Not just aimed a kids.

But that's what I mean. For a more mature audience than kids, there are far better sources like comic books characters to make movies of. And they can then also be included in expanded universes like The Avengers film etc.

The Power Rangers are a bunch of teenagers who have no real powers. They're just good at fighting, wear funky suits and have gadgets. But also, they have vehicles which can join together and form a giant robot. That alone instantly takes it out of any serious category and it becomes a kids film.

If they just rebooted the series, it could be a great kids film. But I think because of the basic premise of the series, it would never be anything more than that. If you start removing things like the megazord and the helmets etc, it stops being Power Rangers and you may as well just call it something else and start a new franchise

Batman has no Superpowers but he's still classed as a superhero so that doesnt really make a valid argument, in my opinion anyway.

There's be no need to remove the helmets or the megazord, But I do think that it would need a seriously imaginative writer to come up with a good story for the megazord, not just, rangers fight bad guy - rangers beat bad guy - bad guy comes back to life and grows - megazord beats bad guy.

You make good points but i just think that there is potential for them to make a great super hero movie. Maybe I should try write a story for it, could be my big break lol
