Weather supposed to get cold again this week. Looks like I will have to get some more oil. Never used as MUCH....even more than the freeze up last winter! Mind you, don't use solid fuel....just oil stove and OFCH....but the bloody price of it. Would be interested to know if others going through their stock???

We just couldn't keep up with our oil costs. We were going through about 400 euros worth a month last winter, so we got a plot of turf in the summer (we have a dual solid fuel/oil range) which cost us about 225. We haven't used the oil since. It only works cos there's someone in the house most of the time to keep it loaded. It's a lot of work but a serious money saver - we've enough turf to burn morning noon and night until at least April. I'd say it'll save us the guts of two grand all in, and the house is warmer than it was with the oil.

Do you have a dual burner or is it oil only?
And is the attic insulated? It makes a massive difference to how often you need the heating on. You might benefit from putting down a second layer of insulation. We did this (our house is old and crappy with single-glazed windows etc) and it has definitely made a difference.

No just oil and an open fireplace which is being cleaned out as we speak so I will have the use of that for the holidays! I don't spend much on solid fuel over the year, maybe €50 and that's it so by and large, oil is my fuel costs. Over the year last year, I spent about €800-00 but I find this year is particularly heavy....probably the cost factor of it and the carbon tax and the VAT! My house is only 12 years old and is well insulated but it is something I will review during the summer months coming.
