Cavity House Insulation

My neighbour whose bungalow is about 25 years old recently got the cavity walls insulated with beads which seems to have made a great difference.

My house is about 15 years old...dormer bungalow and I am wondering if this would suit. As the neighbours house is on one level it didn't cost the earth.

Anybody got any ideas on this cavity wall insulation and if there are any drawbacks etc.?

    Thanks

your costs will be much the same, (if 1. the construction suits and 2. the ground floro areas arre much the same), as you will have the majority of your external blockwork on one level as well.

as you house is 15 years old, knock on an external wall. if it sounds solid and not hollow it is most probably a cavity wall.

if you can open your esb meter box you might be able to see and measure your wall construction.

if you have more than 40mm of a cavity you can probably pump it, however the greater the cavity the better.

I was told that while it is a good way to go that dampness could be a problem depending on the build and that the bead blocks off the vents? Not sure about that! But I suppose, you will always have differing opinions on all sorts of insulation.
