HTC Desire HD Protective Cases

    Hi All,

Apologies if theres already a thread on this, ran a search but didn't see an answer. Picked up my Desire HD yesterday but they don't come with a protective cover. Tried all the shops in Dundrum but nowhere had a case or screen protectors big enough for it and none of the third party sellers on Amazon ship to Ireland.

So was wondering where other Boards users with the HD handset got their cases and which one they would recommend I use?

    Thanks,

    JD

I got one of the 'Gel' ones on eBay. From a UK Seller, had it in about a week, and it cost me the grand total of a fiver or maybe less.

The downside is it doesn't protect the lens... but the way that juts out i'm not sure if any such case exists.

Hi , was also looking for a case and it was between the Otterbox, (www.otterbox.com) can find them on line in a good few places , ebay etc (cost around €38 incl delivery) or the case mate on ebay which i went for in the end (cost about €21 incl delivery) went with the cheaper option as basically reviews seemed good. Should be arriving today /tomorrow so ill post a little bit of feedback when received if you like!:)

I have been looking around quite a bit as well, and have had no joy.
The Case Mate Tough doesn't seem to exist yet, so I assume you went for the Barely There one?

The only place I can see an Otterbox Commuter available is mobilefun, and I have no idea how good this crowd are to deal with (delivery times etc).
Amazon claim to have them in stock but they say it takes between 1-3 months to dispatch!

The best appear to be the above two, so now it is a case of finding out where I can source one.....

Yes the barely there case is what i went for, 21eur or something. However in another thread i saw someone get a rubber gel case on ebay for around 4-5 euros delivered (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=CLEAR+GEL+PROTECTION+CASE+COVER+SKIN+FOR+HTC+DESIRE+HD) , worth a gamble , wouldn't have front protection but you always buy a seperate screen protector for a few quid. If its the otterbox one I know you can buy directly from there website buts its a bit expensive, considering they are setting up a manufacturing facility in Cork it might be worth sending them an email to see what they could do , maybe they are making that range there?

I got one of these guys from Amazon. Superb product - leather, soft lining, very snug fit and has a little tab at the back for pulling the phone out of the case (very clever design idea).

Regarding shipping from Amazon, FoneM8Store shipped fine for me. I got a charger for the car too.

I got the same case from amazon too. I have to say that is the an excellent case. Its probably the best case i have ever owned and is definetly worth the extra couple of bob for it.

Do you not risk dropping the phone once it is out of the case?

Yes of course. Its more important to me that the phone is protected when I'm not using it (keys or other sharp objects in my pocket, etc.)

Thanks for the suggestions. Spotted the case Mr. E put up but wasnt sure about it. I had a Nokia E66 with a similar sort of case and wasnt too happy with it. But if its a snug fit and protects the phone while in my pocket thats all I need.

It was me who posted the original link with the above case, it also comes with a free screen protector for the front. So far so good its doing its job and well worth the couple of euro's I paid I'd definitly reccomend it.

    Ordered one of these.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/DESIRE-CASE-COVER-SHIELD-SHELL/dp/B00474HK44/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_img_c

Ordered on 9th, got it on the 13th. Very happy with it. Actually easier to use the volume button on the side now, as the gel case has buttons on the inside for up and down.

Phone doesn't seem that much bigger with it, and actullay feels sturdier. Postage was 4 pounds.

One review on amazon says it does not have circle design, but it does.

Currently crossing the Irish Sea in an Amazon package to me - glad to hear that it's working well!

Picked up one of those ebay Gel cases and it's spot on. Had a couple of drops recently and hit the tar with a nice soft thud instead of that wince inducing "clack" :)

I didn't like the look of those gel cases so I ordered a flip leather case off ebay today for approx 7 euro including postage... so here's hoping it all goes to plan:)

Im kind of torn between one of the cheap gel cases for my DHD, or an otterbox style one.

Has anyone got an otterbox one they can review, or a review of the case mate one someone mentioned?

Incidentally, the otterbox commuter has dropped to £18 (~ €21) on amazon.co.uk, and the case mate a lil cheaper at £12, before adding p&p.
Otterbox defender is £34, not sure what the difference is there

I recently purchased the Otterbox Commuter for my Desire HD.

After a lot of investigation and reading, I decided I actually wanted the Case Mate Tough. It got the best reviews from what I could tell.
However, it was not available just before Christmas. Think you had to order it from Oz (maybe mobilefun had it but I don't like that company for some reason).
So, when I realised I couldn't get the Case Mate, went and got one of those Gel cases for a fiver from ebay. Only arrived today so can't review it yet.

Realised that it wasn't going to be enough for my jelly fingers so bought the Otterbox as well.
Have been using this for a few weeks now.

Should also say that my wife has the Case Mate Tough for her Desire (non-HD).

    Thoughts:
    Its just okay.
    Pros:
Seems to offer a lot of protection but haven't dropped it to test it.
Very little increase in size with the case on.

    Cons:
Not as grippy as the Case Mate (non HD version at least). The Case Mate has little pimples which makes it very nice to hold.
The gel inner case is a bit flimsey around the corners which doesn't affect the safety but isn't really a nice feel.
Corners attract dust - not on the inside yet, but on the outside material part.
I don't like the way the button covers stick out. On the Case Mate (non HD) they are flush with the rest of the case.
I don't like the cover for the micro-USB and headphone jack. It just feels and looks like a cheap piece of plastic covering.

    Overall:
I would buy the Case Mate Tough if it was available soon. If it wasn't I would buy this one again and just put up with the little things that annoy me about it as I would not want to drop the phone without one of the dual covers protecting it.

BTW: I didn't use the screen protector that came with the Otterbox as I already one I bought separetly.

+1 on the ACE case http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0043XR0JE/ref=oss_product

Got one and think it's great. the tab is very handy as it doesnt have you fighting to get the thing out when you get a phone call or such. I went for one of these myself as it's a lovely phone and i didn't want it to have a horrible plasticly/gel case on it when removed. Also it doesn't add any extra noticable bulk while in your pocket

Got the same case on E Bay for €1.25 with free shipping from Hong Kong.

Found this on eBay. Otterbox Commuter for around £22 delivered. Item number 360333494133.

So does anyone know where I could get some sort of case for the HD in Dublin? Will the shops have them in? Just somehting to do the job until the Otterbox arrives.
