I think your laptop has to be under 5 years old and fully working though.

Got screwed over by HP and their known overheating GPU problem that they won't admit to. Never. Again.

We use HP in work. The last one I had fried the motherboard (even though it was only a year old). I brought it down to IT and asked them was it a common problem, and they said it was. Looked like there was a constant stream of people down to them with one issue or another.

    Rather you than me....

HP are ****ing terribly built pieces of ****. Mine has amazing specs and runs like a pig.
overheats constantly and needs to be pulled apart and cleaned with a air jet and statis free brush every few months to stop it from frying.

I had six motherboards in one of mine in the warranty period, very bad thermal design they made no attempt to address the actual problem just kept putting in the same crappy heatsink and motherboard.

I have had lots of hp laptops in for repair many different models over the last 5 years almost all had thermal related problems similar to ps3 and xbox.

GET A PROPER THERMAL ENGINEER HP!

Also had one in lately that refused to charge the battery. Aside from overheating problems HP had undersized the charger from new by 30-40 watts it couldn't run the computer and deal with a flat battery at the same time. The resulting brown outs on the dc caused the internal switching supplies to fail. HPs solution was to supply a cheap unbranded generic psu that got up to about 80-90 celcius in normal operation before going up in a puff of smoke.

    Other notes:
HP regularly delete complaints from their support forum for common issues
HP refuse to admit that there are common problems across a model - they will always tell the customer that they've never hear of the problem before
HP are very poor for fixing BIOS issues and rarely update drivers

Like the other users said NEVER NEVER again

    [edit]
Actually I am typing this on a HP laptop that a customer told me they didn't want back after I had repaired it.
The trackpad never worked properly from week two a problem that can be found again and again across the net with this model (dv2000)

HPs response 'Have you changed the mouse settings'
Customer 'yes in an attempt to fix the problem'
HP 'oh you broke it - reinstall windows goodbye'

Total nonsense its just a bad design

I eventually got the trackpad to behave by trimming the plastic on the casing on the laptop, setting the sensitivity very low and setting palm check to maximum meaning that you have to press *very* hard to move the mouse

Are the HP Envys worth getting? I've read good reviews.
