Has anyone used any alternatives to paying tax by cheque? Do they accept online transfers?

Yes. Firstly, (I am open to correction here) you have to register on ROS.ie( the revenue website)if you want to pay this way. U can set up an RDI with them, which is a ROS debit instruction. Basically, you input ur bank details etc onto the above website.

YOU can then give them permission to take the funds out of your bank account. They wont take the money out unless you instruct them to do so. All at the click of a button :)

    Thanks for that response.

I rang them, and they can email instructions, sort-code and relevant account number for electronic funds transfer. You just put your pps num as reference

When they receive a log from the bank of funds that have been transferred, they then allocate the payment in your tax account.

So, overall, about the same speed as posting a cheque.
