Every year or 2 there's some new pandemic that we're all supposed to be shítting ourselves about that is hyped up to wipe out half the world.

Well guess what, SARS didn't, Bird Flu didn't, Swine Flu didn't. Chill out.

Sky can't hype any financial/economic scares at the moment, so I guess it's time the launch a Swine Flu fear campaign again.

One day a virus will hit and no one will be prepared for it because they'll think its just another scare orchestrated by drug companies to drum up profits, but it won't be and it will wipe out millions.

The world could probably do with getting half wiped out actually. Pity really.

Ok your level of ignorance annoys me. SARS didn't, Bird Flu didn't and Swine Flu didn't BECAUSE we took them as seriously as we needed to and did something to prevent a true pandemic. If we had done nothing they would have killed alot more people. Oh and some people made some money. So what ? Thats capitalism. Everytime you take a sh1t someone is making money out of it - you don't think toilet paper is free do you ?

Just studying epidemics and pandemics at the moment for an exam and honestly I'd definitely wouldn't be scoffing at the notion of a major flu pandemic at all.......
Prvention and awareness is key rather than later containment

i find a dock leaf does an even better job than bog roll,if it's slightly damp(flick off greenfly's)one swipe does the trick
some still say approx the same amount died from the vaccine as the swine flu virus,i don't beleive this but i also don't agree that lots more would have died if nothing had been done
look at the amount that die from regular flu each year,it was overhyped sheite

interested in more info on this, would you in any way beleive that a major pandemic could be manufactured to prevent the current population explosion?

Kind of hard to prepare against a virus considering it's untreatable by drugs other than boosting one's level of their immune system.

Really? How did we prepare for SARS? I don't remember everyone walking around in facemasks? How did we prepare for Bird Flu? The Swine flu vaccine caused more problems than it solved, most people avoided it as a result.

I didn't say anything about money but might as well throw my view in. There's a difference between a useful product such as toilet paper and rushing a unprepared and untested vaccine to the shelves, in the Czech Republic the vaccine for Swine Flu acctually contained Bird Flu samples. We certainly prepared for that eh? Idiotic comparison.

I was referring moreso to containment and public awareness, which can mitigate against the spread of a disease. Also fevered research.

Ok I get you now. If a virus pandemic was to occur, the biggest killer would not be the virus but the stupidity of the carriers, I'll certainly agree with you there.

Nope, cos thank goodness we have well educated people who work in the area of epidemiology to prevent pandemics. They can only give out the information and we can choose either to heed their recommendations or dismiss as scaremongering.......

Wow. Guess you didn't read the part where I said "carriers", you know, the people who are actually infected? The people who will hence spread their disease through their stupidity and be the major factor in the pandemic spreading.

They are thinking about the children.

Thinking about the best way to utilise their disease spreading potential in their plans to reduce world population/rule the planet, yes, but still thinking about them.

    THE END IS NIGH!

When the superflu hits I'm heading Colorado via Nebraska, should be safe there.

...or at the very least expectant mothers.
The "OMG we're all gonna die" hysteria about H1N1 may have passed and we're all immune or don't care or whatever, but the fact remains that this particular strain of flu is especially dangerous to pregnant women. A friend's cousin died in hospital last year after coming down with it; her and her baby.

I knew that drunkenly buying an inflatable kayak on ebay would pay off someday. That day is close at hand.
